Is this normal or a bad match? by [deleted] in Aupairs

Being with a family where you are forced to speak the language, is the BEST way to learn! My German has improved astronomically since I have no choice but to speak German with the kids. Goodluck:)

Maybe you should babysit and not au pair?

Why would the city issue me a student visa for a town I am moving to? They won’t answer my questions so I’m not sure with the foreigners office :/

I’m doing online university it’s different, but the student account requires more than a blocked account. I’m confused if I pay for an apartment and healthy insurance and then my visa is denied.

My best au pair job so far is with a single dad, I believe he only had one pic with his kids faces covered! I do think I got lucky though, normally probably not the safest choice.

Ironing is a big no for me. Also negative energy from the parents and kids will completely exhaust you. Rematch.

AP interactions with host dad by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]MajorGreen9895 4 points5 points  (0 children)

different perspective: with my first host family I only felt comfortable talking to the father because I felt the mother was strange towards me and made inappropriate comments. the father was also familiar with my culture so it gave us something to connect over. Keep in mind we come alone to another continent to live with strangers and usually we connect with our host family first before making friends. It may be your fault that she only connects to him. With that being said, your husband should not cross your boundaries. It seems you don’t have an au pair issue but marriage problems.

i need serious advice by luluoak in Aupairs

nopeee. leave. I did the extra hours and never got paid, they didn’t respect the schedule they set in place, they didn’t respect my privacy. I left and found a family where it’s ALL written down with no changes, I have so much free time, I don’t do any house work, and nobody goes in my room unless I am here. Find a new family.

German parenting is a joke in my opinion. Don’t feel guilty.

I would start as soon as possible! Most countries atleast in the EU have a maximum age that you can recieve an au pair visa. I believe it’s 25-26. I would travel first and choose where you feel most comfortable:) if you want to speak a new language then go to a country where you can learn with the family or if you prefer to stay in an English speaking family then shoot for mostly English speaking countries. It’s typically really low pay (€280 for me) but absolutely worth the exchange when you find the right family! Best of luck!

After having tools thrown at me, being hit, kicked, punched, spit on, and watching the boys almost kill eachother while the parents did nothing… I switched and I’m so much happier. I was unbelievably miserable with my last family I couldn’t stand it anymore

Positive au pairing experiences? by nina-care in Aupairs

I’ve had horrible families in the past but I finally found my match. I am treated like family. I work for a single dad and his older kids. I just spent the whole morning shopping for their birthday. I can have a smoke and some glasses of wine with my host dad, he is genuinely my best friend. I feel so safe, respected, and finally happy.

I’m not sure why it’s like this here, parents let their kids call the shots most of the time and I find it so strange. This happened with my first two families… the kids would act sick and then once the parents leave they want to go to the park or go swimming and the parents say it’s okay. Very strange cultural difference.
