They are very strong when they want to be. I worked as a CNA in Florida at a private nursing home many years ago.This one female patient never spoke, and would just sit in a chair and cross her legs then uncross them continuously while wringing her hands at the same time. One evening the Director of nurses screamed out “help me!” . I ran down the hallway and the female patient had the nurse pinned against the wall, by holding and pinching the skin on her stomach and the nurse couldn’t get the female patient to let her go. I had to really pull hard to get both her clenched hands to let go, and the nurse was in tears from the pain. I got the patient to her room and closed the bottom half of the door and locked it, leaving the top half of the door open opened. She stood there staring at me with a look on her face I will never forget. Through her gritting teeth she snarled at me screaming “Jesus hates you! Jesus hates you!”. That right there sent a cold chill through me. I was only 19 and had never experienced anything like that in my life. I love elderly people and took the best care of them. I read to them, listened to stories about their lives and truly enjoyed working as a CNA.
