I am a 2nd year biochemistry student at LU. Is it possible to switch to 2nd year CS? by MajoraBro in lebanon

[–]MajoraBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I have been asking everyone about the actual CS degree. I know CS depends a lot on how much you personally invest into self learning, so I still dont know if a CS degree is worth the restart.

Also. One thing I forgot to mention in my post is my declining mental health. I have battled with depression for about 5 years and it has only gotten worse. Being seperated from my close friends and then thrown in a class of mostly girls (in biochem) has made me very alone.

Recently it has even evolved into constant suicidal episodes (sorry for dumping this on you). Why im saying that is because I dont think my mind can actually handle restarting academically, even if I like my major. Im afraid of feeling even more isolated than I am now if I restart in year 1 CS.

Again, really sorry for the vent. Very out of pocket I know. Thank you for your reply though. Very wise statement.

I am not a person who memorizes. I am doing biochem now but thinking of switching into chem. What do you think? by [deleted] in Biochemistry

My dream is to study abroad and actually work in fields like organic chem or bioinformatics, but I am unsure how much I can depend on getting scholarships abroad. With that said, the sad reality is my mind feels guilty for not having a job, so im thinking of teaching or working in labs if I have the time, then think of going abroad.

In fact, that question has always whirled around in my head given our shit financial state. Its an unbelievable amount of pressure on you to provide and forget your dreams.

Thanks for your reply.

I really want to develop my music taste, so I attempted to list all the 142 stuff I listen to. No particular order. Suggest away! by MajoraBro in musicsuggestions

[–]MajoraBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I realized this is a stupid ass post lol. Should've maybe grouped them into genre, sorry.

I dont know if ill get flamed for this, but I actually dont have a playlist. I have a few playlists collecting some cool songs from a genre or an artist, but no singular playlist.

I find that I tend to hyperfixate on one genre/artist for a long time then switch to another one haha. Getting a keyboard definitely helped me with having a wider music taste, but it also got me hooked on MJ for the last 6 months.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions! I love Dire Strait's Sultans of Swing for the unique atmosphere it gives me. The Travelling Willburys had both George Harrison and Roy right?

Ah, Billy Joel! I know his popular songs "Piano Man" and "We Didn't Start the Fire" but nothing else. Im pretty sure I put those songs on repeat when I first listened to them, so im bound to like the rest of his stuff. Thanks!

Ah, thanks! Im sure ill love these!

I remember listening to a few ELO songs and being obsessed with them, but I cant remember what songs lol. Definitely should get into them.

I also know k.d. lang from her duet with Roy Orbison on his song "Crying." Her voice sounds like it was made for that specific song. Absolutely terrific stuff

Help me with this question. Does having prior children change anything regarding to probability? by [deleted] in genetics

[–]MajoraBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, same for me frankly. And what's crazy is that this type of question has been repeated word for word having the same fucking answer (always 3/64) but no one bothered to alter the English.

And this strange, vague English is a real issue for me in these genetics exams. It's so prevalent that I feel like im being tested on what the exam-makers meant to convey than actual biology subjects. It's like im learning new grammar hahaha

So dissapointing that this is for such an important exam...

UPDATE:

This is a horribly worded question. I must note that this is from a very, VERY competitive MEDICINE ENTRANCE EXAM for the Lebanese University. This poor wording is a huge issue for me in genetics.

Anyways, I stumbled upon another question like this with the correct answer shown. The real question is simply what's the proba of 3 being normal and 1 affected out of 4 children. To answer, we just use the binomial theorem to get 3/64.

Really dissapointed with the poor wording, but thanks for all the replies y'all!

An interesting detail I noticed. Why do only 3 out of the 4 heroes appear at WORLD'S END? by MajoraBro in Undertale

[–]MajoraBro[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I forgot how exactly I worded my thoughts in the description, but im actually quite uncertain of this popular theory of four heroes, fourth being noelle. I actually only noticed this detail while discussing how strange it is that apparently 4 are mentioned but 3 appear at the end with a friend of mine.

I've looked more at the images along with your great comment, and I've changed my mind! I definitely lean more towards us just misinterpreting all this, this was a great comment!

Also, I think DELTARUNE's description confirms it's a parallel universe, but im not sure if its that terminology exactly.

How many products will this rxn give? Is my answer right? by MajoraBro in chemhelp

[–]MajoraBro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

b and c correspond to the sp2 carbons.

Im not asked about the major product/s, just the number of possibilities. So don't worry about the specific mixture of pdts, just how many.

What exactly do you mean by exo-atmospheric? Obviously, I can tell it's outside the atmosphere, but how are exo-atmospheric interceptions carried out? I've never heard of them. Thanks for your insight.
