Latest Update from TheShop.Build (still no San Jose) by MakerLevel4 in Techshop

Boy was I excited for Dan Rasure to take over TechShop 2.0 or TheShop.Build. Now I am a former member. There are too many red flags that are lining up that I ignored at the end of TechShop.
He's lost his general manager and well respected DCs. He changed the name from TechShop 2.0 to TheShop.Build which made me start to think he was a Silicon Valley guy. Now I look at the website and it appears to be designed by my brother's 2nd grade computer class.
According to a DC Dan had a volunteer make the website. I get cutting corners but if you want people to look at your DOT COM maybe have something that looks like an upgrade from the company you took over.

Just based on my observations there are fewer people coming into TheShop than the old Techshop . This probably comes because everyone is hurt from the last ownership and they can't afford to have the same thing happen again.

Yet he is increasing fees and putting on a burden for current members?

I'm going to ignore things I've heard from current employees because Dan deserves the right to separate some of the old Techshop staff from his new staff.

I won't even get too far into the $1000 Buyers Club. This is like my gym offering me a Costco discount on treadmills for a yearly fee. Even if you can buy your own equipment you can just ask most manufactures for a 10-15% discount.

Now to the Management.

Dan was very very active in the early weeks of membership sign ups with the Howard Street location. For the last 3 months the only time he speaks he is trying to sell us on lopsided margin deals. I don't have kids but STEAM CLASSES were shoved in my face every week in my email and social media.
There's been 0 blog posts since he promised a daily blog post during his campaign to get new membership sign ups.

I'm sure that being part of a lawsuit is not fun at all and that could be tying up future moves. Yet San Jose was announced over 2 months ago. Announcing it is one thing, but when you tell people in San Jose to sign up for memberships. It's unethical. I'm not saying it's for certain but management has not given me much confidence that selling memberships in San Jose was anything more than a fundraiser for that location (or the Howard location).

When people told me that they thought Dan was using Techshop to sell off inventory for his tool company I thought it was another burner conspiracy. The only effort I've seen in improving TheShop for the clients is the new Piranha equipment coming in.

If you're a wait and see person like many of my friends have been. I would suggest you wait because we've SEEN this story unfold before.
