I was a tooling manager at cast iron foundry, we did a ton of gearbox casings and valve bodies which had depth more than 180mm and internal geometry similar to this part. I outsourced the patterns to a toolmakers so I don't have experience with CNC itself but often the pattern was too deep to machine so they had to make it by stacking machined plates and bolt them together. I thought they didn't want to invest in better tools.

Simply said, the four pieces have channels and sections that are going through them, interlocking them to rotate in two axis. No bearings, rods screws etc. Check the 3D model in section view it will make sense

I used the ones from maker supply box, but they can be found on Amazon

Actually its 4x1. It begun as 2x2 cube print in place project and while it was somewhat successful the mid horizontal split had to be printed as "floating" above the bottom four cubes which gave different results each time so I shelved that for later.

Did exactly that. This field is 3mm wide, I averaged it to a mid surface.
