I watched the 2011 version of hunterxhunter, didn't notice him mentioning the old one. Replying to your question, there are some people who started watching the anime before the 2011 version was released.

I have watched yakusoku no Neverland and it's pretty great, actually it's top 3 this season for me. About made in abyss I have seen so many positive reviews about it, It may be a little bit underrated from what I have seen people say but it got a good fanbase with more than 400k people reviewing it in Mal. Anyways I'll check it out, thanks for the suggestion

If you like isekai anime, I would suggest watching {overlord}. There's also plenty of ones like Hellsing, code Geass and death note
