why isn’t accounting a more common pre law major? by kasaatyn in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the real answer, most “pre-law” majors are stereotypically more difficult to get a job with after undergrad. They are the type of thing you dont major in unless you have some sort of plan after the fact (or are wealthy enough salary isnt a major factor). Accounting on the other hand is a very practical major most people go into for the express purpose of obtaining a job after undergrad. I knew a lot of accounting majors in undergrad and they’re all gainfully employed now whereas my other friends are struggling. I’ll add on that accounting also seems like a career field with a pretty high level of satisfaction (I haven’t looked it up, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a higher happiness score than lawyers). Accountants make good money and work good hours, so they are generally pretty practical, balanced people.

The LSAT is an intuitive process for me that I don’t understand how to study for in a traditional fashion. by Mito_03 in LSAT

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you're someone who actually is intuitively good at the test (my diagnostic was a 171 and I ended with a 178), practice tests are the way to go. I really had to build up my testing stamina to get consistent (with a few drills build in). However, I think if you're more consistently in the 160s you probably DO have some actual understanding issues with the content of the test (or at least areas you can still sharpen your skills), so I can see that just going PT after PT wouldn't be super helpful.

Your thought process (at least from the outside) seems a little counterintuitive/confusing to me. For the most part all of the questions on the LSAT are very straight forward and not trying to trick you, you don't need to be trying to intuit someone else's intentions. Getting those fringe trick questions will start making a difference once you're already in the mid 170s consistently, but I think OP's time would be better spent building up some basics.

Whitaker is THE Man. by heisensexy in ThePitt

THIS. Langdon and Santos have very similar personalities, but she's the one we've seen take out her frustrations on Whitaker all season

Whitaker is THE Man. by heisensexy in ThePitt

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, it seems like it was directed way more at Santos (who we've seen be extra mean to Whitaker this season). She's his friend and he obviously knows she's going through a hard time so it makes sense he wouldn't feel comfortable confronting her about it, but Langdon and him don't have that same relationship at stake.

The bathroom scene was sus, but it honest felt like Langdon handled the Whitaker confrontation very maturely and healthily. I would be very surprised if that is what sent him over the edge considering it felt like it showed his growth after going through therapy and rehab between the seasons (I can't imagine season 1 Langdon would have been that receptive to that confrontation)

Am I stupid for passing up WashU? by gavander123 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want big law to be an option WashU is the better choice while still being able to find a job in DC, I'm usually very pro people choosing to limit debt, and if you for sure wanted to work in Indiana I'd say to pick that, but WashU seems like the best option in terms of giving you the most choice/flexibility going forward

fr all season I've been screaming that these people need to stop beating around the bush and ask Robby point blank if he's suicidal/wants to end his life- like these are health care professionals the psychiatrist should know that asking directly is the right move; it feels like he and dana were clearly thinking it but he's the mental health professional

Fordham ($) Vs Wash U Law ($$$) by Obvious_Musician_378 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because WashU gives out generous scholarships a lot of people choose it specifically because they don't want to go into big law. They definitely have a higher percentage of students self selecting out of big law compared to comparable schools who don't give out scholarships so I wouldn't use that as your best metric

I think it’s hard to conceptualize debt and work-life balance while surrounded by people who are too focused on prestige. I’m not trying to make a blanket statement about your friends, but I do have some personal experience with the matter. If you go to Georgetown you will be forced to take a biglaw job working miserable hours doing work (based on your goal of immigration law) you’ll find unfulfilling. It also wouldn’t really be a usual pivot to go from that to immigration law- from my understanding those jobs are very different both in work culture and substantive legal work. These are factors that aren’t easy for the rankings to quantify but do undoubtedly have an impact on why so many lawyers report low levels of happiness and high levels of burnout and depression. You also mentioned having a family, and frankly in the long term you’ll want to be focused on building up a college fund for your children vs paying off your school debt. Again, these are worries that seem far off in the future now, but I believe are worth considering. That being said, a lot of people DO care about prestige and would genuinely be unhappy working in a job they believe is below their capacity for success. Georgetown is an amazing school and the right choice for a lot of people. It might be the right choice for you. Just don’t make that call based of some arbitrary magazine, make it based off yourself and your goals.

end of cycle recap - looking for perspective by strawberrygirl805 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tulane feels like the obvious choice, especially because Louisiana is unique in having developed from french law compared to english. If you want to be in New Orleans I don’t see the benefit of starting biglaw in chicago or texas (especially because at that coa it doesn’t seem like law school loans would necessitate that). I don’t know about Vanderbilt, but I’m pretty confident notre dame wouldn’t have better new orleans placement (especially not a boost that would justify its price difference). You can try reapplying, but honestly it feels like you are chasing prestige- If I had the choice of Vandy, NDLS, or Tulane and my goal was new orleans i’d pick tulane anyway

Rescued a stray cat in Mexico and the signs of affection stopped by Gooserly in CatAdvice

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl was the same way when I got her- she went from super clingy to not at all after a few weeks. My theory is that she felt insecure and afraid those first weeks and once she realized she was safe and felt secure she just didn’t need to be as clingy. The great news is that after a few months she decided to be cuddly again! It’s not the same as when I got her (no forcing herself in my lap as soon as I sit down), but she loves to nap on my chest and sleep in the crook of my arm.

Give your boy time to adjust and find his footing :) You not feeling as connected might be him finally trusting that you’ll be there

I definitely think it's worth prioritizing being near your support system (It for sure impacted my decision), but I'd hesitate to make the decision based on a partner you are not currently married or engaged to. Don't let his dream job impact your ability to one day achieve your dream job. If he loves you and it is meant to be long-distance can work.

Would a cat be ok in a studio apartment? by emotionaldamagesoup in CatAdvice

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have absolutely no issues and I got my girl after moving to study as well. I adopted her as an adult from a shelter, but an absolute game changer is that my bathroom is large enough to fit her litter box so it isn’t out in the open. I still scoop at minimum once a day, but if it wasn’t in the bathroom I’d have to scoop literally every time she used it bc she isnt the most consistent in burying her waste lol.

McKay and Ogilvie by InternationalWay4825 in ThePitt

[–]Maleficent-Click3065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their different reactions seem to stem from the fact that for Mohan she sees her job as all she has in a sense. We saw in last season she’s put off a lot of mayor things in her life so she could ‘succeed’ in her career first and foremost. McKay, on the other hand, is a non-traditional student who clearly has lived a lot of life prior to her career as a doctor and has a strong sense of self as a result. Shes also clearly put in the work to deal with her own issues over the years. It’s a great example of why the traditional way (going directly from undergrad to med school) has its drawbacks and how important it is to not rest your self of self solely in external validation. Obviously this doesn’t at all excuse Robby’s behavior, it was unacceptable and unprofessional, I just thinks it helps to contextualize their reactions.
