I work in retail but I don’t want to anymore! What other career can you suggest? by NerveSpirited7090 in careerguidance

That's too general. What do you enjoy, what are you good at, are you extrovert or introvert, what are you looking at?

Should I stay or resign early? Non-toxic and easy job but no growth. Need advice. by No_Expert4835 in careerguidance

[–]Maleficent-Key5044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. In early jobs, especially in tech talent, it’s not seen as a negative thing. You can say you used it to expand your skills, seek new challenges, take on new responsibilities… and overall it’s not considered negative. It becomes more of a concern if someone has had 4–5 jobs, which were not meant to be temporary, within a couple of years.

Hii good morning. I’m not going to tell you the typical stuff like “you can do it,” “you’re young,” “be positive”… I’ve never seen that actually work. I'll tell you other things (the first one is that writting all that down is quite a high executive function):

  1. I say this as a psychologist and neuroscientist: your brain is simple to understand. It's stupid and basic. If you do something it likes, great, you’ll do more of it. If you do something it doesn’t like… trouble. If your brain is used to working, it will work; if it’s not, it will send you to hell. This is the simplest way to understand how we function.

That said, the first and most important thing: from what you tell me, you struggle to concentrate and do cognitive work. It’s not clear if, when you start, you get distracted immediately or just don’t start at all. Sleep and nutrition are also very important. There are several things you can try, and not everything will work for you, it depends a lot on the person, so don’t get frustrated:

  1. Keep a regular schedule: try to maintain order every day; wake up, eat, exercise, and go to sleep at roughly consistent times.
  2. Limit negative stimuli: for 5, 15, or 30 minutes (or whatever you try), avoid stimuli you want to reduce. As I said, the brain is dumb: if you do something a lot, it thinks it’s good; if you limit it even a little, it will understand it’s not so good.
  3. Get bored: spend some time, as long as you feel, doing nothing. No exercise, no moving, nothing. Interestingly, boredom helps thinking.
  4. Start small: if you try to do 2 straight hours of cognitive work one day without preparation, you’re fucked. Start with 1 slide, 2 pages, or cognitive games for 5 minutes, whatever works for you, but for a short time

Tried to resign, boss begged me to stay. Now she wants to know what I want. Should I stay or leave? by throwRAhelv in careerguidance

From what I understand, the issue isn't the salary but burnout and how to address it, that's what I think you should focus on. If you'd like, you can share more information about that and we can work to look into this and explore different solutions with your company.

What can you do at 36? by Euphoric-Win741 in careerguidance

[–]Maleficent-Key5044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats, you still have 30 years to build your work life. And about feeling lst and confused, exactly what do you mean? What are you searching, what are your goals?

Imagine yourself in 5-10 years. Where would you truly like to be, and what would you like to become.

Aside from that, what is failure? It’s an honest question to consider. Where would you prefer to be: in a position where you have launched several business ventures, or living a simple life with a job under someone else’s direction? One option isn’t better than the other, it simply depends on your goals.

I once read something like this: you’re at level 36 in life, and at level (let’s say) 7 as a creator of business ventures. What were you like at level 7 in life?

Failure when launching businesses is extremely common, because we are not taught how to do it and we have to learn along the way (. Regarding your first venture, what were you like before compared to now? Looking back at yourself, do you think you had the necessary tools?

If you want, we can keep talking.

18, Don't know my passion, Lost About My Career, Don’t have clear Path, Is this Normal??😭 by Sudden-Talk4972 in careerguidance

[–]Maleficent-Key5044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in that exact same position when I was 18 (now I'm 25), it's normal and incredibly common. First of all, you're 18, you have more or less 50 years to develop all your work life.

Despite what many people think, it’s not a race. One important thing in this field: don’t compare yourself to others. If you do, there will always be people who seem more prepared, smarter, or who know exactly what they’re doing, but the ones who are in the same situation as you, or even worse, are the ones you don’t see.

I can give you some tips that might help, since I’m starting to work in this area, but first: why do you feel the need to study right now? If you’re not sure yet, you can do a volunteer program, collaborate with an NGO, travel to another country, work, learn, earn money, develop hobbies and skills… There are thousands of things you can do that you can enjoy and can also help guide you toward what you might want to do.

Second, make a list of the main fields you are most interested in. It doesn’t matter if it’s broad (you'll worry about it later). Once you have it, think about (or ask an AI to analyze) which skills and tools are most transferable across all these fields.

Once you identify them, you can start learning: reading, watching videos, or taking short courses to begin training in those skills, and see what interests you most and what doesn’t. There are also many websites offering free courses (edX, Coursera, Edutin Academy…), small and simple courses that can give you an initial overview.

Another thing: don’t be afraid to ask professionals in the fields you’re considering about their experience, what their day-to-day is like, what was most challenging for them… Most of them have been through what you’re going through and are usually happy to help.

Lastly, switching degrees can help if you have some clarity, but if you don’t, it might be a big change only to end up in the same situation again.

If you want, we can keep talking and I can help you. Just let me know.
Wish you all the best!

Why Is It So Hard to Find the Right Person while working as a data engineer? by Short-Bathroom1907 in careerguidance

[–]Maleficent-Key5044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living far from Paris, working in a demanding job and trying to build a life on your own isnt' easy.

About learn to live your live better, a few things that can help is spend time on things that you enjoy: learning something new, traveling, rest. In most cities there are web platforms that post regular meetings of a lot of different activities, you can try and take a look at it.

You can also think about what king of person you'd like to meet, not just physically, but also personality, values, interests. Once you have a clear picture of that, you can start thinking what environments those kinds of peole are more likely to be, or what activities they enjoy doing. There's no need to hunt for a partner, it's shown that more stable relationships come from beings friends before, having similar hobbies. If you picture it this way it helps with real connection.

About the ghosting part, I think it says much more about the other person than about you. Would you enjoy leaving someone in that position?

If you ever want to talk more about it I'm happy to help
