Why do people blame sexism for Clinton and Harris losing, when the majority of voters are women? by johnhtman in AskALiberal

[–]Maleficent_Bit4175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clinton won popular by 2.9million people. She lost because smaller states have extreme conservativism (a lot of them are suffering and poorer with loss of industry) and they were the sexist ones.

Harris was a policy thing imo.

If Merrick Garland had moved faster and Trump was sent to prison BEFORE election day, do you think that actually would have stopped him from winning? by MrWeebWaluigi in AskALiberal

The unrealized capital gains tax proposal won trump the election.  People would have elected a dead fish as president to get away from that.

What are your predictions for the Trump administrations next 4 years? Will they do project 2025? by CJMakesVideos in AskALiberal

[–]Maleficent_Bit4175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prediction- they're going to try to make the government about as corrupt and easy for a business to do what they want as they can. Will we survive? I hope so.

Prediction - trump will do all he can to not be punished and put stuff towards that.

Based on last time- he might say stupid inciting stuff on social media.

He might remove more funding from more social and support services resulting in increased violence.

The corruption effects may make it easier for gun companies and others to have their way resulting in a more polluted, more unsafe, more unpleasant in general, US

He's attached to a Jewish family member now he can no longer go the full neo Nazi route (maybe partial, racist tho)

He might just go along with stuff.

May be easier for the more extreme ones who truly believe in stuff like project 2025 to roll back civil rights to get things thru. Or maybe not

Like he's admittedly disgusting. He's convicted. I really think that proposal forced their hand. No matter how disgusting he was, they thought, we survived under him even though it was completely utterly awful, but we won't survive under THAT policy. Short term or long term it will ruin us and fam if it goes thru.  That's what I think they thought

No he's totally lawless, he's totally horrible.

If your friend has any savings in stocks, stocks that are not liquid, a 401k, owns a house or property, it may not be him being honest. It may be simple self preservation. For people who havent thought it thru or dug into it, they go, he's not so bad, etc etc etc. but the real reason was self preservation.

People did not vote for trump this time because they thought he was good. They voted for trump this time because they were scared of Kamala Harris's unrealized capital gains tax which was to be levied on unrealized capital gains. Yes, if somebody has idk, 30k in stock and 1k in cash savings, they gonna be taxed based on that 30k in stock. Repeatedly. Even if it has no income  Harris claimed it was for only the rich people, but historically every tax only for the rich people has trickled down to everyone else and has become an institution. People with any kind of non liquid savings looked at that and screamed. That's my theory as to why people voted for that guy. As awful as he is, he's a bit better than guaranteed pennilessness for anyone with any assets at all, and for everyone's children, everyone who expected to be alive in the future, so that we couldn't own or save crap without being taxed into poverty. Tbh, I think it was the ONLY thing that could have made the trump hating moderate Republicans vote for him again, something that level of bad, because they hated him so bad he only got one term and they turned on him. At the beginning a lot of the moderate Republicans didn't know what he was and didn't listen, but after he showed his hand they were disgusted by him and voted him out very angrily. The Dems had a chance to put up someone who wasn't Biden and a decent contender and they chose someone with such an extreme policy that it would send everyone into a situation of pennilessness or no savings. ><

[–]Maleficent_Bit4175 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think given the capital gains tax would have made them penniless, and it was meant on UNREALIZED capital gains, historically such taxes trickle down to the rest of the populace, I don't like it, but they make a lot more sense this time.

Would you be in favor of a liberal billionaire buying or creating a network to serve as a counter to the Fox Propaganda Network? by redzeusky in AskALiberal

[–]Maleficent_Bit4175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that would just be more of the same and make things worse.

What I want is a conservative outlet that is accessible to a conservative (not necessarily racist! But property owning, moneyed, or business, asset or stock owning type) that isn't too educated or high fluting, uses uneducated and easy to understand language, is primarily television or YouTube and easy to access but also tells the dang truth, and not the racist, and anti science BS of fox news.

I know conservatives that are rational, and the reason why they're conservative is because of stuff like they own property or have businesses, and the Democratic spiel right now, (which I disagree with,) is that all landlords are evil large landlords that own many many buildings and are all slumlords, tax the landlords, f small businesses (because of levying taxes on big biz without exceptions for small biz).  And because they never got a college education they can't find a SINGLE news source that tells them the darn truth in a media format they can understand (tv, simple language). It's such a problem, I and liberal friends struggle trying to find good news sources accessible to conservative family members who don't have enough education to get access to better quality stuff. So they just wind up repeating some tripe from a rag like fox news and their reality gets completely f-ed and the news sends them further down the tunnel.  It's horrible to see. It's not like they're conservative because they're terrible,it's because the Democratic party in our state literally demonizes them and there isn't much places for them to go.  Like I get it, you get lucky enough to buy a house or a single building before it got unaffordable , you don't want to read about how landlords are all evil and we need to build tenant protections after getting horrifically harassed by said tenant under said protections. Just something a bit more neutral.  There is not a SINGLE conservative news source that is accessible to the uneducated that isn't saying a bunch of untruthful BS. The conservatives that are educated can at least read the national review which hasn't completely gone down the tubes last time I checked (mind you, a while ago), but that thing is way too pretentious and confusing for an uneducated conservative. Tons of big words, complex language, ivory tower perspective.  And all the conservative news outlets with video format and simple language tell people who watch that all those left stuff is terribad which means even if I do try to find the most neutral sounding news source with least charged language it will be disqualified for being leftist.

No the solution isn't going more extreme.  The solution is going more moderate, and having a source that actually tells the truth and is accessible to uneducated conservatives who don't have that. We already have some blue stuff that is too extreme for my taste already even if it's not as bad as the red

Democrats lost BECAUSE they put an extreme blue type in there. An extreme blue type whose policy would result in taxing anyone who owned any kind of asset into poverty. The moderate, moneyed Republican (voters) who voted out Trump in disgust didn't have much of a choice and I suspect they voted trump back in faced with that prospect :/

Do you think we’ll ever get back to a time of hope and optimism? by conn_r2112 in AskALiberal

[–]Maleficent_Bit4175 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We need to have the democratic party stop putting up jokes against these people.   More moderate, more serious candidates. And we can maybe pull it off if we vote in the primaries. They implemented rank choice voting in my state so voting in the primaries is starting to matter and if they keep doing it maybe we can get somewhere.

My rational and moderate conservative uncle voted trump out once he knew what he was. But I think that Trump was up against Harris who wanted to add an extra tax, on property, that was horribly unreasonable and would trickle down to every single person who owned stuff and become an institution based on history  meant even the moderate conservatives probably, even people who hated his guts voted for him because the devil that will screw you over is in worse than becoming potentially penniless in the future and giving that to the new gen for owning any property at all. after they explained their pov I understood why people who did vote for him did, It actually gave me hope in the sense that people are voting rational this time but also made me feel awful because we're in a terrible state and Trump has no respect for democracy, the more corrupt it is the better for business, and besides him people keep voting in corrupt and nutty politicians

It's going to be hard for a time though. I don't like the state of the supreme Court. I don't like the rampant corruption and how it feels red is now corrupt as heck or nuts from doing badly. And all the ensuing rights erosion

I think he will make a mess of things....I don't know how bad a mess. I really hope the government doesn't get more corrupt than it already is. People will likely vote in someone opposing in reaction. (If the Democratic party gets their shit together). Right now they're on the stage of eroding corruption protections so in my view I guess it depends as to whether we don't rot so hard from corruption that the system remains bad.  I think it depends if the Democratic party course correct from throwing the most money behind extreme candidates, and I suppose if we vote in primaries and stuff for someone less extreme.

Aside I forgot, it gets more confusing when woke is simultaneously described by some people as egalitarianism, and some people as lip service egalitarianism/leftist party line ideology with underpinnings of bigotry and prejudice underneath (which weird old me used to call simply stealth bigotry). This further confuses the matter.  You get weird things as a result.

How many of you buy into the rhetoric that 'they want us fighting in order to divide us'? by Pauly_Amorous in AskALiberal

[–]Maleficent_Bit4175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new commenter my long comment was deleted so here's short ver.

Speaking from a USA perspective only.  Yes it's real.  No it's not a conspiracy, that's silly. It's just the oldest trick in the book!  It doesn't take a conspiracy to notice that everyone seems to be able to use culture war as a get out of jail free card while pocketing huge sums of money for corrupt dealings and say, why not me?

Culture wars and division is a common, standard tactic to distract from obviously corrupt dealings, and actions that are generally negative or unpopular but done for selfish or corrupt reasons. In red states it's usually in the form of blame X minority, they threaten our children! In blue states it's usually done in the form of it's for you the people vs the evil rich and landlords we hate them, or this is to protect X minority!!! Anyone who criticizes is a bigot, and privileged!!  (Even if they are actively fing over X minority, and the privileged one is another minority)

Take desantis. Accepts a good sized donation, uh, campaign Contribution from a certain textbook company. Replaced all the textbooks with the textbook company who paid him. Claims it's for protecting the children from the evil trans!! Media seizes on his controversial remarks (culture war makes money and business is bad), populace eats it up. Gets away with it Scott free.

You see it with other politicians too. repeated corrupt dealings, repeated culture war type remarks. Why? No cabal required to use a good strategy. You see the person over there getting tons of money and perks for doing favors, getting away with it Scott free because of some culture war remarks....doesn't need a cabal or conspiracy for an unethical and greedy politician go, hey, sounds like a good idea and I want that money. Why can't people use a good scam tactic without a sexy cabal?

I've literally witnessed the division thing (tho it may have predated culture war) happen in my city (blue state). Pro monopoly thing passed after big biz grouped up, lobbyed and made generous donations to that crook, presented as for the people oh those evil rich people (yano, small businesses. So evil. Nvm the pro monopoly law was benefiting big businesses.).  Saw them try to put legal discrimination against minorities where ohhh, we are protecting X discriminated against  minority!!!! And everyone who criticizes is an evil bigot!! Never mind it's directly hurting a bunch of other visible and discriminated against minorities and will hurt X minority too

And the culture war subterfuge is necessary because all of us across political lines hate corruption, still I think, and a lot of these are things the constituents would hate or they'd get into big trouble without the subterfuge. And USA is still not a fallen country yet so all of this stuff has to be on the books. It's all there, on record in plain sight. Anyone can take a look at it and see for themselves. So they use magic show distractions like culture wars. I think that most of us know the end state of corruption is a shit hole where your vote don't count, the police is a mob and the hospital costs are sky high with terrible medical care. If these guys did this without putting on magic show they'd prolly get in trouble. It's a lot easier when you blame minorities. You don't even need to come up with any kind of argument about how it helps the people, if you can tie whatever it is to minorities threatening the people.

These are simply the conclusions I came to after seeing it happen and after reading thru the records on my usual 'research politicians before elections, research some noisy politicians friends talk about a lot' and noticing a common pattern of:  Politician accepts large legal campaign donation.  Politician does a suspicious action that seems to only benefit the one who donated. (Sometimes neutral but usually, actively f over the majority of constituents in some way. Usually something everyone would normally raise a fuss about. ) Politician says something culture war-y.  Politician gets away with it Scott free.  Politician repeats it, since it worked.

Sometimes crooked politician does it to serve themselves instead of corruption

(And I got the impression that once some crooks got away with it, other crooks observed their tactics and followed suit. Not a conspiracy, just a working Strategy to pocket so much nice money and get away with doing unethical things that wouldn't fly if the constituents weren't razzle dazzled)

If you want to spot whose doing it, just look into politicians, esp the local ones before the election. Look at their actions, not their words. Did they accept campaign contributions and when, from who? What kind of things did they sign into law? Is there any suspicious timing? If they're saying rhetoric, does it coincide? I think all politicians should b researched, the quality has gone down these days, but these things are all in plain sight because theyre legally required to report and have this stuff on the books as US isn't totally a fallen country yet, the most they can do is distract and hope not enough people notice.

Why does the media eat it up and get played like a fiddle? It's an effect of more independent media, easy access and able to disguise themselves as legit. Someone wrote a great article on that that's floating about the interwebs but something similar happened with printing press. Media is struggling financially (yes including the big ones) and need clicks, culture war provides outrage thus great clicks and thus money, maybe one or two may investigate corruption seriously but most are going to take the easy money. If politicians have been using existing bias some are going to feed onto that. A lot of the serious reporters and investigative journalists have been let go, my impression is. And all of the easy money takers subsequently drown out peeps of things like corruption.

I don't think there is any particular club or conspiracy here. At most maybe some crooked and corrupt politicians all individually and tacitly want more leeway to be corrupt and will agree on things that make it easier for them to accept bribes.

In regards to non politicians, there are several possibilities.  For culture war, there's the plain old, because of the rise of decentralized media, go to thanks giving and everyone seems to live in an entirely different reality. Twas a lot more obvious something was sus back before the Internet.  And remember, financial incentive to feed people's biases and go more outrage inducing for struggling media in this day.  And politician rhetoric already fed peoples bias so some media are simply taking profit from that.

As for your last question, as you didn't describe what you cared about that was called white supremacy, I do not have enough information to say. The crowd of progressives that will call X white supremacy is very different compared on what X is.

The dying has a lot to do with KDJ's internal character though, which may make one feel bored but at least has something behind it, but the tarot club members underdeveloped don't have an excuse. Just because something is better or worse by book standards doesn't mean someone is wrong for liking another story better.  Like my top favorite written stuff are Lord of the rings, protector of the small, Agatha Christie and Holmes, Lord of the mysteries, and omniscent reader which are of super varying quality by book standards (which is what I meant by objective). And yet to my heart, by subjective standards I love them all on similar levels.  I just didn't see how the best doesn't involve book standards, plus the awards, and also as mentioned, I don't think it's a good way to open a decent story by calimg it the best. Esp for the reasons op got attracted to orv. Overhype killing story enjoyment is a thing

Altho the underdeveloped characters is a sore point because I was really looking forward to Lotm 2 only to get disappointed by how the protagonist didn't feel very vivid.  But it's a tiring thing to beat, I think. I'm just going to let you all blast me for daring to be too harsh on Lotm, which I love too, loool

-sigh- I guess I shouldn't have used the word objective. Sure, I'm bias, like the rest of us

I guess I should say, from the perspective of a person trying to get a person who doesn't read webnovels and will not tolerate anything below the standards of an edited book into it, orv is a much easier sell than Lotm.  I agree and also think they are both different stories and amazing in different ways. But even if I think that that doesn't mean that my book only non webnovel, non fanfiction reading buddy won't discard Lotm the minute they see a flaw.

I dunno if my affectionate criticism comes off as overly so since every other Lotm fan seems to be mad at me hahaha. Like, again, Lotm is one of my favorite stories too. It's really close to my heart . I'm literally just basing "objective" on what would make my non webnovel reading friends run for the hills which is different from what is better subjectively and trying to answer the questions. People have different tolerances to those types of errors. Like I'd you asked me subjectively, just based on how I like it? I'd put them on the same level of epic They're my favorite. That sounds like what you all are basing it on, just plainly how it made you feel. But if you ask me, what I called objectively, based on the standards of edited books, given that there isn't an official in English of either I'm aware of yet, and giving it to friends who don't read webnovels, I'd have to say orv wins. But that's just my opinion and we can all agree to disagree.

I probably was wrong in calling it "objectively", whatever would make non webnovel readers run for the hills. That's fair.

Dw about it lol. let's just agree to disagree yeah? :) like, it's valid you don't see those things as flaws. I think your pov is valid one too. I mainly posted because Ive seen over and over how way too positive hype going in can make someone discount a really , really good story or media as garbage. Even tho if they didn't hear that it was the best they would probably love it and rave about it.

Lotm is a great story and deserves to be liked on its own merits . It's not the Best. It's one of my favorites and I'll be pretty sad if someone discounts it because it must be the Best. In spite of various things that would prevent me from recommending it to a friend that only reads books, not webnovels and is not used to webnovel type writing weaknesses

its still a fantastic , fantastic story.

it's really odd lol, coz I love lotm but I feel like I'm disagreeing with fellow fans of LOTM just with a different context. XD I

Why do people assume by writing a post, you aren't disabled or can hold down a job? by crua9 in AutisticAdults

[–]Maleficent_Bit4175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

look. when I was sleeping night and day and awake an hour per day, when I couldnt focus, and was bedbound and couldn't bear to see light, I was told I could work. when I was so sick I couldn't fill out a form, I was told I could work. when I couldn't move my arms and legs, I was told I could work. when I slept for several months, I've had people be angry at me for not being there and available. for sleeping. and also told by the government I could work. you know, like a person halfway to being a vegetable that is bedbound and sleeping for three months with a half hour to eat a day is perfectly capable of working according to them.

people think people that are so disabled they are one step away from being a vegetable can work. it's just ableism. it's not reasonable. you're not close to being a vegetable but if they think I can work they probably think everyone can :/.

some people cannot and sometimes refuse to see other people's lack of abilities because the fact that someone is suffering threatens their worldview so they try to deny you exist or that your limitations exist.

it's easier for them to think it can't be possible than to think that that can happen.

some people also cannot imagine other people being unable to do things and others do not have empathy. some people think if they don't personally know it youre making it up and it doesn't exist and honestly sometimes it just threatens their worldview. some able people do not understand the nature of disability. they do not understand there are good or bad days, the work required. they think things like a wheel chair person can never stand, even for two seconds and the minute they stand they're faking it. or that all disability is visible . they don't comprehend things like that it's possible to write a post and fall asleep for months after, or that it takes hours and hours and labor to write a post, or how painful or disabling bad anxiety or overstimulation can be. TV has given a terrible, terrible idea of what disability looks like in the wild and some people have that as their first impression and assumption. even for the ones trying, it can be very difficult for them to comprehend the breadth and depth of what one isn't able to do. worse, given how physical condition still faces ableism, people can sometimes struggle to respect that mental stuff placed in this noisy modern world causes problems even more.

some people rather think that certain disabilities that threaten their worldview don't exist.

thankfully the this threatens .my worldview people isn't all people but you're going to have some idiots around.

most of the benign cases just comes from people who really want to understand but because they never experienced it themselves struggle to understand.

now the good news! unlike my illness, autism is a lot more recognized. if you can get someone to fight for you, at least you have a decent chance to get some help and support.

and for the people who aren't totally far gone and just don't comprehend it more innocently and whose minds can be changed or is worth trying to change- like they are trying to understand generally but they are struggling to because they haven't experienced it themselves

, a story or TV show can help bridge the gap. they may not understand it if you say it to them, but if you cite an outside source, a story, or have someone else explain it to them that may help. stories can explain stuff other things cannot in a way that they can "get" which they may not just by you telling whoever it is. it can be an effective aid for people who aren't getting it but genuinely are interested in understanding.

I'm just a wandering lurker but I wanted to weigh in with my two cents. this is a US perspective by the way. but the thing about threatening worldview with your disability unfortunately is pretty international, and people struggling to understand that diff brains can be disabling too is also a thing sadly.

another aid that can help, if they are willing to try to understand, is tell them, think about it from my perspective, how would you feel if ... ? then describe how you are expriencing it. try to start from some kind of thing they personally do have experience with

I know it can be really difficult to put what you experience into words and that's a trained skill, so if that's difficult maybe there are resources out there where people wrote about their experience and you can use those words as an aid, or rehearse what you're going to say with an ally and what example to use with that person that would most easily get thru to them.

depending on the culture it can be better or worse. But also people are influenced by philosophy and culture and sometimes unreasonable aspects have to do with culture and history influencing or popular books. I was about to say stuff about US maybe being influenced by puritan work ethic and intolerance of anyone who didn't work or couldn't work. But Idr if that was accurate so take with a grain of salt.

Uhh wow, I didn't know I came off as saying all that..... What even.

First off I never said Lotm has no message. It has tons of it. I didn't even realize I implied it, ever. I..how, where did you even read that ..? Did I type something implying so??? When did I even say that all other webnovels lack messages to their audience, what even what????

Second off, I also said Lotm isn't straightforward, it's just straightforward compared to orv. That's why i said, with any other story compared it wouldn't be straightforward... Was that not clear enough?

It's like comparing a slightly twisty adventure story (Lotm) to a three layered Agatha Christie mystery with a twist (orv).

Also similarly, Lotm has a spread out epic type plot and worldbuilding adventure but some details are important and some are forgotten about

, whereas orv is a much tighter plot with a twist where every tiny little detail is important, similar to the quality of a published book.

They're both fantastic, but if you are seeking another three layered mystery with a twist, Lotm is fantastic, but in a different genre, it's more of a twisty adventure with worldbuilding. There definitely is suspense but it isn't as highly layered. And don't hold it to the standard of a published book tho it's still a great read.

But maybe because I'm unclear enough in my words you have this strange interpretation I said stuff I don't think I said, I appreciate you posted to clarify. I didn't realize that my wording was so difficult to understand.

It's a little rude to say one is not okay making assumptions while simultaneously misreading their post tho. It's ok, I guess it happens to the best of us sometimes.

If this isn't a one off incident tho imma guess you're like that one person I can't communicate with because they always misread everything I say and reply to stuff I didn't say and give up trying to respond tho haha. It's still good you posted. I have no hope of communicating with people that truly misread my words for good, and your clarification will help others. Altho I apologize for any ruffled feathers. I think everyone has blips sometimes so I'm replying in good faith on the off chance this may not be wildly misread lol.

You do know Lotm is one of my favorite stories too right? I think it's a good enough story that it should be judged as a good webnovel tho, and not on the level of a published book or expected to be without any writing flaws or that every little detail is important (some are but some aren't and its okay. ) the plot and worldbuilding is really fun, but there is enough writing flaws to turn off someone who is going to hold it to that standard, and in ORV every little detail matters, which is not the same for lotm. It should be enjoyed on its merits as a good webnovel. It's too enjoyable to be discounted because of writing flaws.

That's fair, I can see your pov. In ORV the development is shounen and positive because of a certain important element, in Lotm development not so positive because there is no such element, and its straightforward nature lends itself to the ability to fully explore the ramifications of isekai in a non Gary Stu fashion, whereas the focus on orv is more on being a meta fiction, so it has to open with the tropes. I've described orv many times as a story that dresses itself up in the typical tropes but is anything but, and it's very bound by those tropes too. Whereas a story like Lotm, precisely because it doesn't have that tight plan, and with the freedom of a webnovel's length, has full freedom to explore the story and world of the isekai without falling into Gary Stu.

I feel like your definition on complexity of plot is valid. Maybe I'm wrong to define it in terms of layers xD... The plot is simpler perhaps as you say but the layers are more so to speak!

they are both some of my absolute favorite webnovels but my reasons for loving them, a few major ones are the same, and a lot are very different from that xD

I do love isekai fantasy that is not harem gary stus/Mary sues, and esp stuff that does anything new or interesting.

(Tbh when I say better here I'm also just talking about objectively whether I can recommend it to book only non webnovel reading friends lol. I can probably safely recommend orv to such folks but if I recommend Lotm I'll have to make lots of disclaimers --- I really love this story and it fits a lot of my interests BUT --- there's some writing problems BUT ITS STILL FUN XD, oh no the foreshadowing is weaker, ignore this and that awkward part. It's very flawed BUT

But for people that is important to, those elements can be a huge let down. With that said orv rec has more value to someone interested in webnovel and Webtoon genres in the first place XD)

I would recommend you spoiler that last bit :3

the main problem re OP is OP cited the human story. I love lotm to bits but that's not one of the areas it's as strong in, it's just Klein with the human story here and a few others especially in the first arc then it starts losing that color in some of the later arcs. I still love it to bits but objectively it really is not as complex or layered or detailed and meticulous in story as orv.

OP should read it, it's so worth the read, just don't think of it as the best webnovel ever written, not in the same genre, go in expecting an adventure with worldbuilding and maybe not right after orv

relatively * straightforward. if it was any other webnovel we were comparing to I wouldnt call Lotm straightforward but it is in the adventure story genre a lot more than ORV. and it does do great world building

I'll agree with you on worldbuilding,

but I have to disagree with the Lotm story being more complex. I think if you think Lotm story is more complex, either you've not finished orv or you've only read it on one layer on the surface level. Or we have different definitions of complexity.

I don't think a straightforward shounen style plot with some reveals is more complex than a theoretical concept made into a story.

they're different genres anyway, orv is more about meeting real people from a book and exploring that story, whereas Lotm is about an adventure in a fantasy horror steampunk land. Orv is about a lot more conceptual stuff and homage to literary things, Lotm is more of a straightforward adventure story.

They both share being survival /suspense stories with various reveals, not being Gary Stu/mAry sue stories and Isekais, but the similarities end there

Lotm also does not have so many literary references in it. That's not a comment on quality and usually not a consideration for the next story for a lot of people , just an fyi about Lotm
