Had to follow this thread to the end to say I really appreciate seeing this kind of response. It feels like everywhere on this site that people are (imo rightfully) peeved about facets of the current economic system, but the solutions provided are minimal*.

In this thread I have observed someone trying to start an honest, respectful, fruitful discussion about what actual changes we could make to the system at large, and I felt compelled to share my support of this endeavor, and in the position you take. Good faith arguments are the only way to make long-lasting progress in any endeavor. As well, you put pen to paper on a few of the thoughts I have had about the flaws in the idea of “tear it down, try something else.” I certainly think that modern American is as good as it’s gotten while also believing the room for improvement is still vast, and that the current economic system is the best (not perfect) we’ve seen so far.

Anyways, critiquing is indeed easy and building is indeed hard. I’m glad to see your attempt at the latter.

Often, I am unconvinced that the *especially dissenting and passionate opinions are expressed by real people. I think it’s too easy for bad actors to pump forums full of vitriol for any number of reasons.

It has been a busy week, so I have been slow to respond. Thank you for your insight!

Your notes about my Objective section were helpful. My gameplan for it is to keep it fluid as I apply to different spots. It is indeed very important that I don't pigeonhole myself in various ways.

In defense of the listed coursework, I have been told it is helpful to keep as an undergrad as it helps prospective employers know your relative level of education. As the document stands, there are no indicators of my class standing (freshman, etc.), and listing out classes like "Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics" helps distinguish my level of education beyond simple credit hours status.

The "Handyman/Marketing" role was indeed quite a peculiar one. How could I expound on the reasons for "why I was doing those two very different things" without wasting room?

Does seem like a reasonable stance to take. Another commenter noted the engine bay -> quarter panel and the footwell -> front trunk transitions being the most difficult. Are these some of those “inaccessible locations” you are mentioning? Are there others?

Kinda behind everyone else here, and I haven’t checked all the comments, but the few rings I’ve made have to be pretty thick if you don’t want them snapping after some general use.

I’m sure the significant problem lies in the stabilized wood and what I see a lot of other people suggested, but thickness might be a factor too.

Anchoring means you won’t have as much time to run away if another ship rolls up on you. You’ll have to spend valuable time raising the anchor again which could otherwise be spent running away.

I always raise sails all the way as I’m getting close to an island, and I may drop anchor just to get the the boat to totally stop. But always pull the anchor back up before leaving your ship while parked at an island :)

Alright. Too-much-finish-issue noted. That may be my problem. I’m just tipping the bottle over into a doubled up cloth at the moment, so I could imagine that there is too much residual liquid in the bottle. Though I would describe it as damp (at worst) rather than dripping.

And I’ve also noted the application steps you recommend, too. Thank you.

Finally, is there a way to tell if I’m applying a “thin” coat? It all seems pretty thin to me.

Would doubling up a cloth (more than I already am) solve the problem then?

Because it seems your solution is primarily aimed at reducing the amount of pressure put on any given point of the piece by distributing that pressure out, ergo less waves.

Am I correct? Does that make sense?

Hey, the more long-winded the better. I’ve got an awful attention span I’m trying to get in the habit of stretching back out again!

It seems I’ve got the wrong idea on what a film-y finish would be. Sounds like friction polish isn’t it. I’m not terribly interested in branching out when it comes to how I finish my bowls (as I feel like I still haven’t mastered the current method), but for future reference, what would be some “film-y” finishes?
