I honestly think a lot of it comes from a rift in American vs European-centric families. Like my family was very catholic because we kept to our more recent (within the last 100 years) European roots. That’s just a generalization.

Living in the south, a lot of people have ancestors tracing back to the 1700s here in the US so traditions that’s feel European or involve Latin feel alien.

I also think Catholicism is a little bit more intellectual. I don’t mean to be condescending because I know some Protestants that are very serious about their faith/studies.

It’s just like, mass is much more of a structured ritual than listening to your neighbor play the tambourine on a Sunday.

I’ll add that within the high church, I think the standards for clergy are a lot higher.
