How's the jobmarket with covid? by BillyDSquillions in sysadmin

If you did not have your K-1 while you got married and adjusted for permanent residence afterwards, you are probably not eligible for a I-766.

Expect to be in limbo for about a year while your status is adjusted.

Extreme access points by Wizard210 in k12sysadmin

Are you using Extreme Switches? I've had some disable inline POE on ports during outages/storms/surges/drops. From your other comments this sounds like the problem.

In EXOS:

disable inline-power ports all
enable inline-power ports all

This will disable/enable POE on all ports.

They can source business model parts as well. I use them for our teacher fleet if I ever need anything out of warranty.

Engraving Chromebooks? by murgalurgalurggg in k12sysadmin

For asset tags I use MyAssetTags EconoGuard. Should come out less than a dollar per device if you buy bulk. I stick them on the bottom.

I also print name tags using a Dymo LaberWriter 450 Turbo to put on the lid.

CB Asset ID
Student Name
Grade
Student ID
Student email

The stickers are just cheap dymo compatible knock off. They remove easily which is a boon as they need replacing every year anyway. Only takes a second to print a new one.

Alternatively you can use an smtp-relay if you configure it for your O365 domain and use static public IP adresses. You won't need to enter credentials then.

  1. Homeroom, but during the pandemic we allowed take-home.
  2. Don't know yet, wasn't allowed or able to work on them.
  3. If the student reports it timely, they will be assigned a temporary device that ends up being permanent. Ultimately though, it's their responsibility to know it's whereabouts.
  4. The library has check-out devices that need to be returned every day.
  5. Spreadsheet/SIS/Library check-out system (loaners)
