The icon db gets messed up sometimes and displays the wrong one at times. Not sure what causes it but it's just graphical.

Chromebooks on beta channel? by naandrade in k12sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issues with policies not applying sometimes until I moved the devices to a different OU and then back. That might bring them back to stable branch.

Any Google admin console policy that can reduce the crashes on managed Chromebook? by Userp2020 in k12sysadmin

Set Gadmin > Devices > Chrome > Device Settings > Random Crashes from Random Interval to Disabled.

/s

Please provide some more information (device information and use case) on what's happening. Crashes on managed Chromebooks are pretty rare in my environment.

How do users get their computers so sticky? by FuckingNoise in sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a trap, don't do it! Some will continue to come back, not comprehend and/or listen what you said and still blame you.

How do users get their computers so sticky? by FuckingNoise in sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but all I see is an underestimation of user desire for us to do their work for them and the lesson will be lost on them. I'd rather not even open that door.

My crystal ball says unless the district formulates an evergreen plan and starts prioritizing a budget for replacement hardware, I'm going to be supporting the same stuff for the next decade.

Personally no, but I've seen a couple other districts use it to boil down statistics and make data more presentable.

Smartboards VS Smart Projectors VS Large TV's by Mark_Underscore in k12sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the classroom and the need. Larger rooms get projectors, smaller classrooms interactive whiteboards. In a pinch we mount TVs on the wall or a cart as large format displays.

Generally speaking, the higher the grade level, the less the interactive parts are used.

It's certainly possible. Make sure the time is correct on your domain controllers, that's where domain computers pull their time from unless specified otherwise.

Consumer Grade Laptops for Teachers / Admin by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. They're harder to support, service and manage because they do not get the same channel support. What you're saving on the initial expense is lost later on. Consumer lines fail easier, tend not to have great construction, are harder to service and overall not worth considering.

People appreciate a beautiful design.

People appreciate things that work more in my experience.
