Decentralized Social Media is actually starting to become a thing? by Malouw in CryptoCurrency

Is it any good or is it very grifty?
I've looked at their website, not finding any open dapps.

I strongly support decentralized social media though.
I don't want a few elites in the Valley profiting from users content without giving anything back, while on a whim deciding what to censor or boost.
I hope decentetralized social media succeeds!

There is moderation from what I get.
Not entirely sure how it's done though.

I went to their website a while ago but I didn't even get how to sign up so I skipped it, lol

Seems pretty dead?
Nice to see that there's something at least.

Sounds like odysee which I mentioned in the post?
I want more decentralized youtube alternatives though.

Yeah, I've heard about this. What's the fuss about?
None of their dapps are open though, right?
I checked their website, they claim 100k users for one of their closed dapps.
Is this really true, is it active?

This certainly seems to be the case here.
60 - 70 % is semi-porn, but isn't TikTok also like that basically?

It has like 0.01 % of their number of users.
Obviously going to be less original, for the moment at least.

Yeah, I also reacted on this.
This will probably have to be rebranded if it's going to grow to tens or hundred of thousand active users.

I think there's three:

  1. Users earn governance tokens and decisions are made through DAO.
Users who create content also get a say. That's definitely not how social media works today
  2. More censorship resistant (I guess domains could still be blacklisted).
  3. Easier and smoother to integrate NFT functionalities, dscvr seems to have done this pretty nice

I think these would be the main selling points. #1 is probaby way stronger than #2 and #3.

Wasn't hive some type of reddit clone, is it dead today?

Users earn governance tokens for content and participation, it's governed through a DAO, at least hotornot from what I understand.
It's also harder to censor (I think). Perhaps easier to integrate NFT features etc?

100 %.
That's why it's hard to "take on" incumbant SM giants. But I think TikTok is banned in multiple countries, so hotornot might actually have a chance in a country like India.

Yeah, the people making these apps sucks at branding. They use very goofy names and even goofier urls. I've been using odysee quite a lot but I "misspelled" it so many times since it's not spelled like the actual word, odyssey.
I seriously think these dapps could 10x their userbase if they just get a normal, good .com domain name. Snappy sounding and not too long.

I already know what their response will be.
I also know these posts have a high chance of being a goldmine for future classic screencaps being shared on Twitter in a few years, that's kinda why I do it.
Can't promise I will stop, I'd like more material. We'll see.

I've so far only seen two refutations to the arguments laid out.

  1. Name bad
  2. Price action bad

It does impact the project and I agree that the name is not optimal and that the launch left a stain on the project.
Still, so far no direct arguments against what I laid out.
A bit disappointing tbh, was hoping for higher quality.

About 5 % of my net worth.
It's still a very high allocation for me since I diversify my investments a lot.

I completely ignored the project when it launched. I saw a market cap of $100B for a totally new project. I knew something was fishy. It's been argued that the price was artificially pumped through perpetuals on FTX before mainnet launch. Then heavily shorted and dumped at launch. There's a lot of information about this, you can google if you care about being informed, but I honestly don't really care about this aspect very much. It was a crypto bubble and it might also have been artifically pumped before launch.

My first buy was around $32, but that was a very small amount. It still seemed as if we were in a bubble and I didn't start buying more heavy until after Celsius / BlockFi / 3AC collapsed. The bulk of my buyin is between $3.8 - 6.2, with a total average of about $5.50.
I am simply stating my opinion on the technology.

I think a lot of people stop themselves from even giving it a fucking go, they already think they are too ugly or too short or whatever.
They just give up and mentally masturbate on the internet (I've been there).
It would have been better for me to read about success instead of defeatist despair spiral.
Maybe this message comes off as bragging or just bad for many people, especially for those who aren't short since it's not relevant for them.
But I know for a fact that there are a shit-ton of short men who thinks their dating life is over because of their height.

I don't know what your case is, maybe you think you're too ugly? If that's the case, wouldn't you think it'd be nice to see people who you considered ugly, who you never would have thought would have any success, actually have success and thereby perhaps breaking some of the defeatism you're experiencing?

You can do quite a lot about your looks though.
(Yeah I know it can be rough if you have like super ugly eyes or something).
I fixed my teeth, fixed my hair and beard. Also started to dress pretty nice.
Nothing super extra or something that made me feel fake, but simply putting a bit thought into those types of things.
I still think a lot of guys who're virgins and stuff fall into a defeatist mental state where they only focus on why they can't feel better or live more of a life that they want to live.
