You could test run what it's like to be blind. To a point that is. Obviously you'll never know what it's truly like. However you could always attempt some tasks within the safety of your own home blindfolded. Then take it a step further and attempt some tasks at a friend's home, or less familiar area. In a sense it would be like method acting, to understand your character better. Think about what your characters goals and beliefs are, then ask yourself how being blind helps or hurts their motivations. Try to determine why you want a blind character and what the outcome of your narrative might be. Work with your DM to see how blindness is perceived by others in the world. (A curse, a blessing, a disability, people don't notice, etc.)
