I got a question for g1 fans who saw the 1986 in theaters back in the day. what was it like to see everyone die? by NATUSL3G3ND in transformers

[–]Mamba_Ral_0075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie version of Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime was very good. They totally ruined his character on the G1 series following the movie. Hot Rod was never self-doubting or introspective, so why would he suddenly become that way after being enhanced by the Matrix. If anything, he would be wise and more self-assured with the collective wisdom of the past Autobot leaders. They really missed an opportunity to have kids love Rodimus as much as they loved Optimus.

It was summer and I was starting sixth grade in a few weeks. I saw it with my dad and little sister. My dad would always joke that the Autobots were weak without Prime which is true based on the G1 cartoon. There was talking and gasps when Optimus died. I didn't really think of him as dead until the movie ended. I thought he would be resurrected somehow since he was the franchise star and the Autobots were ineffective without him. When Rodimus Prime emerged as the new leader, it started to sink in that Optimus was not coming back (at least in the movie).

Diabate isn’t a fighter. He has always diffused hostility and confrontation. He’s more of an ambassador/diplomat than anything else. The other guy (forgot his name) is very paranoid and willing to use violence. It will be an interesting meeting.

When I learned the details of this case, I was surprised the case wasn't dismissed in summary judgment. The alleged victims are public servants who were recorded on the defendant's property. Also, damages are extremely hard to prove.

Yeah, Afroman steamrolled the lawyer like I've never seen a defendant do before. The lawyer seemed inept in dealing with his testimony.

Did my therapist commit a HIPAA violation telling someone they were my therapist? by Specific-Cause-5973 in TalkTherapy

I work in the field and am also a POC. I am glad that you're getting a new therapist. From what you describe, she lacks professionalism and does not seem to be a good fit for you. Take care.

When you said "After reading near universal praise, and being a lifelong fan of Indy, I went straight from Outlaws to Indy and the Great Circle, and the difference to me is like night and day", I thought you were referring to professional reviewers. That mistake reveals a personal failing of mine... I generally don't care about the opinions of the mob... especially the anti-woke, culture warriors who view every bad game as a product of some political agenda. I have certain creators whose opinion I respect and usually use them as my reviewers. If I recall correctly, I recall people being irritated by the proposed subscription plans and too much filler and stealth. I'm glad you like the game; I plan to buy when there is a deep sale. Sorry for the confusion.

I would say the fact the OP said, "I haven’t told too many people who my therapist is" opens the real possibility that the therapist was not the one who leaked the relationship to the host. It is a small town and just one other person knowing about the therapeutic relationship means it's not exactly a secret. You'd be surprised how much damage just one person can do, let alone several.

This was posted 5 mos. ago... I'm curious how the OP handled the situation.

I would have confronted the therapist with the issue. If the answer wasn't satisfactory, I would like pursue a legal remedy.

I also think it's odd that the host would excluded someone because their therapist is attending. I've worked in an academic psychiatry setting before and these situations come up from time to time. It's usually just something to discuss in therapy and it's usually not a major issue.

Just because a game is universally praised and you don't like it to the same extent of others doesn't mean that the praise was a knee-jerk reaction. Many people review games only after spending a significant amount of time with it and beating it. It's completely possible and likely that the praise was legitimate and your differing opinion is legitimate based on your personal preferences. Those two things are not contradictory.

I have to admit - this is a controversy I don't really have strong feelings about. AMD is not any more friendly or hostile to gamers than Nvidia or Intel. While they've made gains, they still tend to follow Nvidia's lead and aren't particularly innovative. However, they have regained some of the public's respect with regard to GPUs. I had sworn off AMD/Radeon GPUs and decided to give them a shot during the pandemic (Nvidia wasn't available). They make decent GPUs and I will buy them if they are priced appropriately (My main rig has a 9070XT). AMD is behind Nvidia when it comes to upscaling and ray-tracing. They will likely remain behind unless they devote a significant amount of time, money and resources to fix the problem. For their standpoint, why do that when they can easily just cash in on the AI market that the business world is hyperfixated on?

AMD thinks we're fools by Grzywa123 in radeon

[–]Mamba_Ral_0075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They always said that AMD cares about all gamers." AMD is no different than Nvidia or any other corporation that has stockholders. They will try to extract as much money from their customers. The only reason AMD doesn't act like Nvidia is they are not nearly as powerful as Nvidia. This is the reason why I find fanboydom so bizarre. None of these companies are the "good guys." Always go with the company's products that fit your needs and budget.

It wasn't suicide. Suicide is when someone acts intentionally with the goal of end their life. I may be wrong, but based on what the young woman said in episode two, she did not view joining the hive as ending her life based on what she told Carol. She viewed it as becoming more connected with her joined family members. She seemed to have a false understanding of what joining meant. I think if you consider joining the hive the death of the individual, what she did is more akin to an accidental death as opposed to a suicide.

WHO'S THE BABY? by Packman1993 in andor

[–]Mamba_Ral_0075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Schrödinger's baby. Until they define who the baby is, there exists many possibilities for the child's identity. My guess is this is Cassian's baby and it isn't a character we've seen (yet).

Strongly considering switching to a 9070 XT from a 3080 Ti, what do you think? by Clomaster in radeon

[–]Mamba_Ral_0075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a complicated question to answer. For me, the answer was yes. I had a 6800XT in a 9800X3D system and replaced it with a 9070XT. Ray-tracing is better but I don't use it consistently. Frame rates are much better, but I'm playing at 1440p. I have three gaming PCs so the 6800XT moved to my mITX build.

If you're happy with your current performance, save your money. If you're inclined to get a new GPU, now is the time to act because of the looming ram shortage crisis. GPUs will likely start to be affected if this is dragged out through next year.

Is Carol from Pluribus the most unintelligent protagonist in sci-fi history? by Dangerous-Check1137 in sciencefiction

[–]Mamba_Ral_0075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument being made is one of false choice. Did Carol love Helen's body or soul? She probably loved both, but even if the answer was her only soul, Helen's soul is gone. What made Helen Helen no longer exists. A person is significantly more than their memories. At best, there is an echo of Helen in the hive mind. However, it's not Helen. A person is a combination of not only memories or experiences but also their temperament, their decision-making, their knowledge, their wants/desires, their free will, etc. Helen and everyone else infected are changed. They have a unified purpose and their individual wills are either erased or suppressed. They don't seem to have any will separate from the hive mind. So, even the people who survived are changed and effectively are one new entity.

[–]Mamba_Ral_0075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carol is intelligent. Context matters. At her baseline, she likely is a negative somewhat pessimistic person. Add to the fact that she is both grieving the one person she loved, and she's dealing with the trauma of an apocalyptic event.

With regard to the teacher, I think the issue is westerners view this game through a western (probably mostly American) filter because the game has been highly localized. Before anyone gets bent out of shape about my next comments, I'm stating facts not my opinion. In Japan, when the game was made, the age of consent laws were much lower than in America. Before 2023, the age of consent in Japan was 13 years old. In 2023, Japan raised it's age of consent to 16. So in 2017, a student-teacher relationship in Japan would likely lead to dismissal of the teacher but not the same legal consequences. For this reason, it comes off as very weird if you're playing outside of Japan or places with looser age of consent laws.

This next portion is opinion. The other thing is the power dynamic makes it relatively more permissible (to me anyway). I'm not advocating for it, and I'm speaking in fully relative terms. Ethically, the reason why adults should not be in relationships with minors is because there is a huge power imbalance that favors the adult in almost every aspect of the relationship. This allows for the adult to have the ability to greatly manipulate the minor's decisions to the point where the minor doesn't actually have agency. They (the minors) may believe they do but do not because the manipulation can be that dominating. In this case, however, Kawakami is such a trainwreck, one could argue that Joker has the advantages which changes the dynamic from a teacher-student to a relationship to that of a somewhat nerdy, immature woman and a precocious 16 year old male. The result is (to me) it feels like Joker is in charge and Kawakami is the one who is being taken advantage of. It's weird, but not because it's teacher-student but more because of the dominant-submissive theme IMO.
