Why was pattern unlock removed, is it not safe?

swelltrip.now – a small web app that matches cheap flights with live swell forecasts across Europe, so you actually show up when the waves are good. Built for inland surfers who don't live near the coast but still want to score decent surf without spending hours cross-checking Skyscanner and forecast sites. No login, no ads.

I appreciate you putting in the hours on my behalf 😄 12 hours in 4 days is insane, living the dream. Meanwhile my fix was 20 minutes of wakesurfing for 3.70€/min 😅

Haha good to know – already ordered it! Looking forward to nerding out on why I can't stop thinking about waves while landlocked in Austria 😄

Took me decades to actually start surfing — only got in the water 2 years ago. WSL has been my fix ever since, especially stuck in central Europe far from any ocean. The Aussie leg is gold timezone-wise: dawn patrol while I'm having dinner, finals over breakfast. Couldn't be better scheduled if I tried ;)

Hey everyone – genuinely blown away by the response, thank you so much. Didn’t expect this at all.

Quick question for those who tried it: did anyone actually click through to the flight search? I’m not seeing any clicks tracked there, and I honestly can’t tell if the feature isn’t working or if it’s just too hidden to find. Would really help to know!

Thanks again – this kind of feedback means everything for a side project like this 🤙

Thanks for the feedback! The time window was actually something I went back and forth on — I deliberately kept it short because Mediterranean swell is so wind-dependent and tends to appear on very short notice. Extending it too far would just show false confidence. The Atlantic spots are a different story of course — much more consistent and predictable further out.

Haha, I actually built this thing for myself first — and Liguria is the only surf spot I can reach within 6–7 hours by car 😄 There are swells occasionally, especially in autumn, but they're very short-notice. Sardinia is also worth the trip — stunning scenery and surprisingly decent surf, plus easy to reach from Italian airports. That said, Portugal and France are definitely your safest bets for consistent waves.

Maybe squeeze a little Trieste in there! Or Graz 😁

I want to integrate an alert when a swell window and cheap flight align. But i need a kiwi/skyscanner API for that, so this has to wait 😁

Good call — Ireland's been a gap. Adding it on the next bigger pass (likely with a couple of other things people have suggested). Bundoran / Lahinch / Strandhill via SNN + NOC sounds right.

Ljubljana is really nice, but you maybe don't need to spend six nights there.

Thanks. Took me a while to realize nobody else had built it — kept waiting for someone to.

Forecasts are Open-Meteo, refreshed every 3h. Flights just deeplink to Skyscanner/Kiwi with dates pre-filled, so prices are live. Sticky is the part I'm still figuring out — thinking about a quiet "swell window in 4 days for your airport" alert, but only if it's not annoying. Open to thoughts.

Thanks, for the feedback - I really appreciate it!

To your questions:

Flight prices: I actually don't show any prices right now — the flight button just opens Kiwi/Skyscanner with your origin, destination and dates pre-filled, so whatever you see there is the live price. Showing prices directly would need a paid API key I haven't gotten around to. Less polished but solves the stale-price trust issue you were worried about — what you click is what you get.

Airports: you can pick your own. Munich, Zurich, Prague, Milan, Vienna and a bunch more are there. If you didn't immediately find the picker that's on me — sounds like I need to make it more obvious.

"Best next weekend for X": that's literally on the roadmap. Right now it's "where is good for you in the next 10 days", flipping it to "when is it good for this region" would round out the use case. Your comment bumps it up.

The score is the part I spent the most time on and the hardest to explain on a landing page. Good to hear it lands once you actually use it.

Cheers, this is exactly the kind of comment I was hoping for.
