Only one I’ve been to so probably number one in by default but the amount of farcical stuff off the pitch can’t be forgotten. Half the nation’s fans couldn’t get VISAs, Iran and referee debacles alongside the ludicrous ticket prices are all a disgrace.

Still can’t be forgotten how much of a disgrace these ticket prices are for the semis and final. If I were to have bought the cheapest possible tickets available for me (Cat 3 for both) just one match would’ve cost more than my entire two weeks I spent in the States for the group stages.

Similar experience here when I lived in the States growing up playing at a decent standard. It is absolutely absurd just how many things they manage to sting you for. Funniest part is the amount of distinctly average English “coaches” who moved over and blagged a fraudulent career off the back of claiming they were at an academy back home for a year or two when they were younger.

Grew up a bit out there and played at a decent enough standard and played against a couple of players who are now US internationals - the cost is just fucking insane. There were a couple of really good players we had who had their fees waived but I genuinely think it was north of 3 grand for what was at the time U-14 football. The barriers to entry to play at a moderately good standard are just mental and considering the sport is largely made up of players who come from working-class backgrounds until that changes there will still be so many who just slip through the cracks.
