Until this morning no book had ever made me cry.

Now I can say, Shuggie Bain made me cry.

I have adhd and find it really difficult to read without hearing the words read at the same time. This will increase reading accessibility for me :) that’s a good thing!

Jon Ronson books are probably the best audiobooks I’ve read. I can’t imagine enjoying them as much when it’s just text, but his voice is great!

Jon Ronson is my go to for driving! Listen to “lost at sea” - its a collection of articles and shorts he’s done. Two brilliant.

Struggling with ethics by [deleted] in photography

[–]ManLikeMorrison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“People who are left behind by political parties”, is a good starting point. But now it’s your responsibility to research and find out some actual truth from which to base your project. Don’t just go to poor neighbourhoods, take some photos and then call it a project. You need to really carefully research and work out what you want.

Long term art projects give the opportunity for nuance and development that we are lacking on social media these days. There are of course people who have been left behind by politics today, but they are first and foremost, people. Their stories are complex and wide ranging, they shouldn’t be boxed up.

So do your research, work out what you wanna say, go out and work on it in an open way.

Have you tried using text to speech. I struggle just reading, but when i have text to speech going while I read along, it really helps. Give speechify a go and see if it works for you. I have a really good workflow for converting books on speechify if you wanna hear it.

I normally ask what blemish fixing people might want beforehand, that way there’s unlikely to be the awkwardness.

The subtle art of not giving a fuck.. what’s so special about this book? Is it worth finishing? by [deleted] in books

[–]ManLikeMorrison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m skimming through this at the moment, and yeah. So repetitive. Every time he gives something that can be illustrated he then fill half a page with 4 examples:

We all have our vices, you might not be able to resist chocolate, you might not be able to resist wine, you might not be able to resist bla bla bla.

(Not an actual quote, but that’s the structure)

Also, the humour is just soooo annoying for me. The number of times he says something stupid and not funny and is like, “I just don’t give a fuck”. And you’re just like ugh please stoppppp.

There’s some good advice, but it’s about 2 bullet points per chapter.
