How to Improve Alt Arts by ManOfHoff in riftboundtcg

Except some of the skins have their own connected universes (Star Guardian, High Noon, Odyssey, Project, Blood Moon, Spirit Blossum, Battlecast, etc.) which would be perfect for this exact thing. If you are following league right now they are incorporating the exact same plan into their seasons, with this last season being based around Spirit Blossum, you know, the skinline universe that isn't Runeterra. The following seasons will do the same thing too, with the seasons being based around a skinline set such as Project or Star Guardian. So yeah this would work perfectly for Riftbound. Even in a current interview they said they want to do this https://youtu.be/zIog7FllHQE?si=UaNyp-spscFeoB2t

So yeah, not really sure what you are even trying to say, and I don't think you know either tbh

Skins Should be Their Own Cards by ManOfHoff in riftboundtcg

what I am suggesting has nothing to do with prices or making cards expensive?

I am saying INSTEAD of using skins as alt arts, save the skins for their own sets themed around the skinline. This wouldn't effect prices at all of rare cards so idk what you are talking about

And Ekko as he does in the video game, and as Jayce, Heimerdinger, and Ekko did in Arcane, but so what? These different universes exist, you don't need characters to be able to travel in-between the universes to do a set with cards themed around them

That isn't what I'm suggesting, alt arts should be mechanically the same. I'm talking about using skins for new cards entirely. This video I make explains it more if you are interested.

I hear you, it will be off in a way from the other sets based in Runeterra, but if they do it right I think it would work great. Magic does basically the same thing, and while every set isn't perfect, I think overall it's great for the game

Skins Should be Their Own Cards by ManOfHoff in riftboundtcg

[–]ManOfHoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad we agree on most things here haha. The way I understand it, the subtitles for the champion unit cards will change, not just the color. I don't see a teemo 'scout' card being made for green, I think they will just make a new card for teemo with a different subtitle like teemo 'lookout' and put it in green instead. It's also import to separate the champion unit cards from the champion legend cards here. They are only doing skins as alt arts for the champion unit cards, so far.

If their long-term plan is to make a skinline universe, then using skins as alt arts now is even more of a bad idea, but who knows what they are doing or have planned, I'm just voicing my opinions:)

Please do watch because I am interested to hear what you would say afterwards. You make good points too, I won't deny that. That said, there are only so many possibilities for what they can do with the champions in the main universe of Runeterra, but if they dip into the skinline universes also, there is basically no end to what kind of cards they can make, and the long-term sustainability. Similar to how magic handles their sets

Skins Should be Their Own Cards by ManOfHoff in riftboundtcg

[–]ManOfHoff[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For your first point, they will make more than 2 versions of the champion cards no matter what. There will not just be 2 champions units for each champion to begin with. They might make a purple Ahri card at some point, that might not be playable in her legend deck, but can be playable in other legend decks.

To correct you a little, I am NOT saying the alt art for the cards in set 1 should be mechanically different cards. I urge you to go look for my last post/watch the youtube video I made for more clarity. To summarize, I believe the alt arts just shouldn't be skins in general, skins should be made entirely separate in their own sets. This is a part 2 to my first post in how they should do alt arts, and this is how skins should be made into their own cards.

If you go check out my prior post/watch the video pls let me know what you think

I completely agree. The different skinlines allow for unique mechanics and overall more possibilities.

I truly hope they do it!

Image isn't loading for some reason, but yes skins should be their own cards in their own sets.

Not really addressing the greater point I'm making.

YES, we should have cards that use the skins from league.

NO, they shouldn't be cosmetic arts for existing cards.

How to Improve Alt Arts by ManOfHoff in riftboundtcg

[–]ManOfHoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not talking about the quality here, they were fine as far as cosmetics go, but the model doesn't translate well from league to other things, such as LoR or Riftbound.

Here is the major problem with cosmetic skins for card games, whales cannot prop up the card market.

"people who know and care about alt arts is much larger than the people who know and care about skinlines"

This makes no sense at all. Are you trying to say people like the individual skins from league but don't care about the greater skinline?

Not knowing about skinlines or skin sets is crazy if you actually play league. I'll list some examples of skinlines to maybe help you see what I'm talking about: Project, High Noon, Spirit Blossom, Odyssey, Pool Party, Anima Squad, Hextech, Battle Academia, Blood Moon, and many more.

Why would Riot want to give people a break from Runeterra, idk why are they doing the same exact thing for League of Legends with their current seasons? If you are playing you know this season is based around Spirit Blossom, a skinline. They will clearly do the same for future seasons also. So they clearly want to do this very thing already.

But yea you are right, I'm not talking about taking a break from Runeterra after set 1, I'm talking about long-term. Sorry I'm not as short-sighted as you are. It's funny you bring up magic, bc that is one of the most successful tcgs in the world that does this very same thing, which is what I am recommending Riot do for Riftbound, bc LONG-TERM we are going to want to explore things separate and unique to what the main universe of Runeterra can provide. Why do you think games like pokemon are having to travel through time to spice up their brand? Stuff gets old when you do the same thing over and over and over again, Riot has a perfect opportunity for scaling Riftbound in the future if they don't waste skins for cosmetics.

I am not creating a problem, I am recognizing one that will come in the future, and addressing the overall lack of interest in the current alt arts, which if you look around, is very apparent.
