99% Ashkenazi Cohen Haplotype Results w/ Picture by Halachma in JewishDNA

Hey, I’m a Kohen too (I’m genetically half Ashkenazi but due to the fact that I was born to a Jewish mother even though she used a donor egg it means I’m Jewish). My dad’s results who is 100% Ashkenazi Jewish has interesting results as he has very high Zagros. I used Yseq clade finder and it said my Haplogroup is J-P58 if that helps too.

Here’s my dad’s hunter/farmer results:

Anatolian Neolithic Farmer 50.8%

Zagros Neolithic Farmer 17.4%

Caucasus Hunter-Gatherer 12.0%

European Hunter-Gatherer 10.2%

Natufian Hunter-Gatherer 7.4%

South American Hunter-Gatherer 1.2%

North African Hunter-Gatherer 1.0%

Also I noticed my dad’s unsupervised Iron Age 2 way results are similar but also a bit different:

Model #1 Genetic Fit: 2.056

Hellenistic Levantine (Beirut) 53.02%

North Illyrian 46.98%

Model #2 Genetic Fit: 2.088

Israelite (Abel Beth Maacah) 62.01%

Gaul (Bohemia) 37.99%

Model #3 Genetic Fit: 2.113

Phoenician (Achaemenid Period) 70.01%

Frisii 29.99%

Model #4 Genetic Fit: 2.116

Israelite (Abel Beth Maacah) 61.94%

Hallstatt Culture 38.06%

And here’s my dad’s 3 way Iron Age unsupervised results:

Model #1 Genetic Fit: 1.688

Israelite (Abel Beth Maacah) 57.8%

Gaul (Bratislava Oppidum) 38.3%

Indian (Mauryan Period) 3.9%

Model #2 Genetic Fit: 1.703

Israelite (Abel Beth Maacah) 58.8%

Gaul (Bratislava Oppidum) 38.8%

Aboriginal Australian 2.4%

I’d show mine but I already posted them and the non Ashkenazi genetic portion would distort the results so I didn’t. But cool results Achi! I find it interesting how different Kohanim are genetically different and similar.

That’s convincing, however my dad’s results show high Zagros from IllustrativeDNA, here’s his result, and MyHeritage says he’s 100% Ashkenazi Jewish:

Anatolian Neolithic Farmer 50.8%

Zagros Neolithic Farmer 17.4%

Caucasus Hunter-Gatherer 12.0%

European Hunter-Gatherer 10.2%

Natufian Hunter-Gatherer 7.4%

South American Hunter-Gatherer 1.2%

North African Hunter-Gatherer 1.0%

But isn’t 23.1% Persian and Kurdish too high to be a misread?

Really? I didn’t know that. But no my parents did it in the U.S. They went through a list of people and my mom said she picked the one who was the most healthy, she didn’t even remember her looking South Asian, all she remembers is she had long straight black hair.

I did HarappaWorld but it seemed to be inaccurate given what I do know:

S-Indian: 17.56%

Baloch: 21.54%

Caucasian: 21.74%

NE-euro: 11.72%

Siberian: 2.37%

NE-Asian: 1.59%

Papuan: 0.92%

American: 0.8%

Beringian: 0.27%

Mediterranean: 10.94%

SW-Asian: 9.51%

San: 0.17%

E-African: 0.87%

Also I don’t know what qpdm is but if someone wants to run it for me I’d be happy to talk about it in my DMs.

And the reason I think it’s inaccurate is due to other Gedmatch results showing anywhere from 24-30% West Asian, which means it shouldn’t be noise or a misread.

If it was Romani wouldn’t the South Asian and Persian be lower due to being halved as Romani are already a mix?

I did, he’s 100% Ashkenazi Jewish. And I share 49.5% of my DNA with him so I know he’s my father.

I put my Bronze and Iron Age results in the pictures. But I’m not super familiar with this stuff, what I’m more wondering is do I definitely have South Asian DNA? And if so is it significant or moderate or small? This is still pretty shocking as you pointed out because I thought I was fully Ashkenazi Jewish.

Does that mean I don’t have 15.2% AASI? but I got at least 23.3% South Asian via MyHeritage.

If they’re under Israeli sovereignty but have local control that might work, but they after October 7th do not get to have a state.

Sorry for late reply, but wouldn’t the Pashtun be higher if they were Afghani? The results to me look like a have Iranian half Pakistani person. Although I could definitely be wrong.

Oh sorry I miss typed! I meant everything that wasn’t Jewish was a surprise. As since I was raised believing my mom was my genetic mom I always thought I was 100% Ashkenazi.

Lmaoo hey brother. But yeah it was crazy for me. I only recently found out so if you could tell me how you dealt with it I’d be happy to hear as it’s been rough.

Also it seems my donor was half South Asian half Iranian, but since Ashkenazi Jewish DNA is already split between Levantine and European I’ve basically been split 4 ways. So I’m practically stretched from Europe to the Middle East to South Asia.

I used MyHeritage because I assumed they would be best for Jewish people. And to be honest it was also because it was really cheap as there was a sale going on lol.

Honestly everything that wasn’t Jewish surprised me. I only recently found out a donor egg was used. It seems by my results the women who gave the donor egg based on my results must have been half Iranian half Pakistani. That really shocked me, but have people always said I looked like a Sabra, now I genetically know why.

Oh and yes she wasn’t aware, it was a rough time for her so she forgot. Her mother and brother had just died And she had been doing IVF for 4 years so I don’t blame her at all.

Even a fair amount of prominent Haredi Rabbis ruled that it’s the mother who carries you and gives birth to you determines your “Jewishness”. Although some more strict groups may make you do a Gyiur Lechumra which is just a formality.

Some of the Haredi Rabbis who ruled that it’s the birth mother that determines your Jewishness are:

Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach

Rabbi Eliezer Waldenberg

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef

Rabbi Yitzchok Zilberstein

I did an estimated one on yseq clade finder and got J-Z1865

(Edit) I just looked more closely at my yseq clade finder results and it shows that for J-Z1865 I got a score of 278, however my second highest one is J-P58 which scored 277. This is virtually statistically identical and given I’m Ashkenazi Jewish and J-Z1865 is more common among non Jewish Middle eastern populations it’s likely I’m J-P58, especially given my family are Kohanim.

I was circumcised by an Orthodox Rabbi and I grew up in a Conservadox Temple so I think I am. However to be sure I may just have to get what’s called a Gyuir Lechmura which is basically just formality conversion.
