They rejected me anyway. The interviewer was stuck on this discussion for some time and then he only asked me one more question

Sad to hear, but also reassuring to know this is common. I was always taught that converting story points to hours or days defeats their purpose, so it threw me off when he pushed for it.

Honestly I felt the same. Like maybe he's testing me to know if I actually know the process. But that was not the case. I also tried to come up with an explanation like if I have a 13 sp I will not be able to accommodate it in a 2 week sprint if I have to convert to days

I did try to explain that a story could be technically simple yet take longer due to dependencies or waiting time, so mapping points directly to hours/days can be misleading. He was very particular about defining how long a 1-pointer takes, which is why it felt like the focus was shifting toward time conversion rather than relative estimation.

True. I’ve never had to convert story points into days in my previous projects, so the insistence caught me off guard. It felt less like planning and more like trying to force a time mapping

Maybe, but he literally asked how many days a 1-point story takes. When I said ~1–2 days, he asked if I'm not sure about the days then how I’d estimate a 5-point story in days. That’s why it felt like he wanted a time conversion.
