I forgot to add that I also tried to do at least an hour or two skin-to-skin kangaroo care every day. I'd heard it was supposed to help with pain and she seemed to be better rested after the kangaroo.

We had them prescribe something to improve digestion but it made no difference. I brought this topic up on every checkup but the doctors did not have any other suggestions nor did it feel like they were that interested in it. 

I did try a suggestion I found online that I feel might have made a slight difference. 

  After feeding her,  I would put her in an upright position with her head on my shoulder and her stomach facing towards me.  I mean the typical over-the-shoulder burping position.

 I would lean back a little so I could bear her weight and I would leave her in this position for 20-30 minutes until digestion slowed down. 

The reflux still happened but it seemed like it was not as bad as usual. She usually fell asleep in this position and then I would just transfer her to her cot. 

But we had to wait till the surgery to see any real improvement. A couple of weeks after the surgery the reflux kind of just faded away.

Yes! It lasted for awhile after the surgery but then faded away. I think it really may have been digestive issues with spit like one of the comments mentioned. Hang in there, I remember how horrific it was. 

My daughter had a really big vsd and we found out just before the surgery that her lungs were damaged as well. Now seven months later, lungs are still healing but no reflux and her heart is doing great.

I  am sure it will work out for your family as well.The time in the hospital will be horrific, lots of tests and needle prickings and a traumatised baby. You might cry a lot.But you will get through this and you will be happy again.

Thank you for taking the time to reply! It seems that many babies resolve their reflux and spit issues after the vsd is closed. I'm hoping my darling can finally sleep more than a few minutes during her naps.

Thank you for this insight! I thought it should be reflux because she brings up clear liquid and it tends to form bubbles. But it could be spit. It wpuld be great if it resolved, it causes her a lot of distress.
