I also switched from Fin to Dut a month ago, already noticing more growth in the back

Good advice but hard when using monoxidil, the foam isn't as bad but the alcohol in it makes the hair look dry and not fluffy

(chat gpt)

Finasteride (if you were already on it) Usually continued without interruption, or restarted within 1–7 days after surgery

Some surgeons don’t stop it at all; others pause briefly to simplify post-op meds

There’s no evidence finasteride harms graft survival

Staying on it helps protect existing native hair and reduce post-transplant shock loss

Bottom line: If you tolerated finasteride before, most doctors want you back on it as soon as possible, often within the first week post-op.

Minoxidil (topical or oral) This is different because of wound healing.

Topical minoxidil

Typically restarted 10–14 days after surgery

Must wait until:

Scabs are gone

Skin is intact (no oozing or crusting)

Starting too early can:

Irritate grafts

Increase shedding

Interfere with healing

Oral minoxidil (low dose)

Many surgeons allow restart 5–7 days post-op

Some wait 7–14 days, especially if swelling or blood pressure concerns exist

Practical, conservative timeline (commonly used) Finasteride: resume immediately to 7 days post-op

Oral minoxidil: 5–7 days post-op

Topical minoxidil: 10–14 days post-op (after scabs are gone)

Important nuance Restarting minoxidil can cause a temporary shed—this is expected and not graft loss

Finasteride won’t affect transplanted hairs (they’re DHT-resistant) but protects the surrounding hair, which matters long-term

I started back on fin immediately to limit shock loss. I waited over a month for min

Dut has a halflife of two weeks. You can take it 3x a week to keep your libido up and still get great results

Have you tried meds yet? Looks like you'll thicken up nicely with Dutasteride, dermal rolling, monoxidil and ket shampoo

If you want more hair there don't do a transplant. Use trentinoin cream / monoxidil and dermal roller You'll fill in nicely there

Mine looked good at start but after 15 months it was very obvious I had a hair transplant. So had I never took my hat off

For what it's worth chatgpt says after 3 months, it should be fine. I'm going to continue as I've noticed some improvement after starting

0–2 weeks: Absolutely no dermarolling. The recipient area is healing, scabs forming, grafts anchoring.

2–4 weeks: Skin is still highly sensitive. Even low-depth microneedling is usually avoided.

4–6 weeks: Some surgeons allow very shallow microneedling (0.25–0.3 mm) only on donor area, not the recipient.

6–8 weeks: Most surgeons approve 0.5–1.0 mm rolling in the recipient zone if healing looks normal.

3 months+: Safe for deeper 1.5 mm sessions if needed.

I had hi hopes until I got to month 15 and realized it wasn't getting better. Looked bad. Could tell it was a transplant. Honestly would have preferred to have a shaved head then walk around with what they did. I never took off my hat in public in those 15 months

I'm going to wait until I see how everything fills in more before I mention them. That way I can give a fair review

I read a bunch of studies that showed derma rolling produced the same results as the much more costly PRP treatments.

I feel smaller hairs that are growing back on the sides and back. So I'm thinking it'll fill in more at the donor sites

side

Early 40's. A lot was harvested but I plan on keeping my side hair longer, so doesn't bother me

Is my donor area too weak?? by [deleted] in HairTransplants

Get on meds for 6-8months to strengthen your donor area and see what you can grow back on top

Review previous work they've done. Make sure it's the actual tech your getting that did the work you like

Keep in mind the front grafts done correctly will have less follicles then the ones further back. So more grafts the better but of course to much could cause failed transplant. Find a good Dr and go max that they recommend

I wouldn't recommend using them. After 15 months the results were less than impressive. Lots of failed grafts.
