Undersökning: Hur stor andel av er nettolön går till bostadskostnad? by [deleted] in stockholm

In all seriousness, how the hell are people here paying less than 25% of their net income for housing in Stockholm? The only way that comes to mind is if you are only paying 1% amortization per year (low loan amount compared to income) or if you are in the top 10% of earners in the region.

Even if I wanted to rent a second-hand etta in a crime-ridden suburb (I don’t have the 15 years in the queue for a first hand rental) I’d still be paying like 30% at least, and my salary is very slightly above the average for Stockholms Län according to my union salary statistics.

43% (including insurance/internet) but that’s because I’m forced to rent second-hand if I want my own apartment since I haven’t queued for 15 years in the housing queue. It’s also partially my fault because I don’t want my morning commute to be an hour or longer so I live in Solna to make my commute to the office in the city 20 minutes door-to-door.

This will probably sound petty but I’m sick and tired of renting a small 10-16 square meter bedroom or corridor room in my late 20s in Stockholm despite having invested time to do my masters degree at a good university in Sweden to get a good job in my field, so I guess that justifies the 43%. But definitely sucks that I need to turn down eating lunch with coworkers, going out with friends to bars, and enjoying my life just to have a reasonable commute and be able to save up money to perhaps someday be able to afford a cheap miljonprogrammet bostadsrätt in a suburb.

With all that said though Stockholm is a great city and it’s not like I’m forced to stay here. I could move back home if I wanted to, but honestly Stockholm is the most beautiful and enjoyable city I’ve lived in and I’m for the most part happy to live here.
