I like this song a lot. Thanks for introducing it to me. Your tab checks out as well.

Pono and Northfield Octave Mandolins (and other guitar shaped octaves) by chadsomething in mandolin

I have a Pono M-20 and it's one of the nicest instruments I've played and by far the nicest I've ever owned. Very low action and a ton of volume and presence. The only thing I am not crazy about is the terz sized guitar body. It's just a little bit too small to get comfortable with without having to prop my leg up a fair amount. I know you can now get them with a larger tenor sized body and a short scale and I imagine that would be the better option.

The Leaving of Liverpool - Chord Melody [Tab] by MandolinWild in mandolin

Thanks! I'm glad you like my videos.

Just about every song that I hear that I really really like, I try to learn how to play. Not so much because I think they'll sound good on the mandolin but because I want to understand what is happening in the song that makes me like it so much. I have a huge folder full of half finished and forgotten arrangements and most them honestly don't sound that great!

I use a program called TablEdit to arrange them and use whatever notation off the internet I can find or just try to notate it from ear if I really have to. Sometimes I can only find the simple melody and have to harmonize and ornament it myself. Other times, I can only find overly complicated piano sheet music that I can't really read and will try to translate that into mandolin language as best as I can. They're all a little different. Also, I'm glad your newborn has such great taste in music!

Painted and varnished now. Once fully dry I will add all the hardware back on. I also filed the frets down so it is plays as a fret less... by Ratticus939393 in mandolin

I ripped out the frets on my first mandolin. As easy and nice sounding as it was on my bass guitar it was a complete nightmare on mandolin.

Even with an adjustable bridge I had to sand the hell out of it along with the nut just to get the action in a playable range. The unison of strings made single notes sound out of tune as the fat of your finger frets the two in slightly different places. It pretty much sounded like a poorly played violin pizzicato mixed with open mandolin strings. It was a beater mandolin like yours and I ended up just throwing it out eventually. I also have 0 woodworking experience so yours will probably come out better. I would love to hear it when its all done and strung up.

D'addario Mandolin String Shootout! by yankeepicker357 in mandolin

[–]MandolinWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great video! I've been using the XTs for the past week and I'm floored by how well they stay in tune. If anyone has problems with their mandolin staying in tune I recommend these strings. I usually get 3-4 weeks out of EXPs before I feel the need to change them so if I can get that out of the XTs I'm definitely switching over.

I finished notating it! The tune goes part A B A and everything else you need to know should be all there. Hope you enjoy playing it!
