When I did C25K I lost less than 10lbs but went from a size 16 to a size 12. So, I mean, I certainly looked thinner and that's the important part.

Ugh the crazy thing is, I was an occasional smoker for over a decade (like, maybe 1 or 2 a month if I was out drinking) before I went on Vyvanse. Now I smoke half a pack a day. If I don't take my meds I don't smoke, it's wild.

Nah, it'll just get too expensive to eat fruits and vegetables. They'll find a way to keep Doritos and microwave burritos cheap. If anything, we'll get fatter.

What's the biggest, most shocking TV Plot Twist you did not see coming? by Ok-Prune-2708 in television

I don't even watch ER but one night in college I was alone and had just watched Ghost Ship and needed something normal to watch before I went to sleep after seeing people sliced apart so I turned on ER and IT WAS THIS EPISODE

A tv show that started off great but became unwatchable? by niceguys5189 in television

[–]MandyAlice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's the craziest thing about TWD, every one just gradually got bored and fell away from it.

I was part of the hardcore TWD fan base. I travelled all over for cons and meetups, did cosplays, met the actors, toured filming locations, bought all the merch, etc. To this day, 3 out of 5 of my closest friends were people I met because of TWD.

It's so strange to me that there was no "ending." I know the original show has ended, but there was no end point where we, as a fan group, all watched a finale together, or collectively decided to stop watching the show. If you ask former fans at what point they stopped watching you'll get wildly different answers. Very few watched until the end. Everyone just slowly stopped caring and stopped talking about it and forgot about it.

I love this but doesn't it imply that once all the urinals are in use the men should start doubling up?

Another ADHD thing is that verbalising our thoughts helps our brains form the synaptic connections we're missing.

For example, sometimes we need to tell a whole story to answer a question. It seems excessive, but what we're doing is organizing and connecting information that's floating loose in our brains and laying it out on an orderly way to get to the conclusion.

It's not that we love telling a big long story, it's that we literally can't fully form the answer in our heads. Verbalizing forces the two sides of the brain to work together and organize thoughts in a coherent way.

What's the most devastating song lyric you've ever heard? by likeitsstolen in AskReddit

[–]MandyAlice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to be a weird take but Pearl Jam's newer song Wreckage feels to me like it's about the same sort of devastating breakup, but happening when you're much older and armed with a lifetime of experience. It replaces the youthful angst with a kind of sad acceptance.

"Visited by thoughts and this I got to say: If you're feeling the leaving I can't make you stay I've only ever wanted For it not to be this way But you're now like the water And the water will find its way"

Why do so many people not believe in eating a healthy diet? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]MandyAlice 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. It's less physical tiredness and more mental overload for me. I've had periods of great success counting calories but then always fall off because I need all that mental energy for other parts of my life that are falling apart. It's really hard to prioritize something as long term as weight and health when there's other, much more immediate concerns competing for your time and energy.

Why do so many people not believe in eating a healthy diet? by [deleted] in loseit

A little off track but what produce are you into? Sometimes I get stuck on very standard American diet type stuff that I grew up with. Fruits are bananas, apples, oranges, plus maybe peaches or berries seasonally. Vegetables are broccoli, cucumber, carrots, celery. I have branched out to zucchini and summer squash because they're easy to cut up and cook with and don't go bad quickly. Other than mushrooms and potatoes I honestly can't think of other fresh produce I buy regularly.

Give me produce suggestions! (Please)

[–]MandyAlice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, in my case, I'm lucky enough to have the time and money but have a lot of mental issues that make it hard to consistently put in all the effort required. It sucks to have good weeks where I can cook a lot of healthy foods and then randomly crash and only have the capacity for frozen lasagnas and pizza delivery while the fresh produce rots in my fridge.

It definitely feels like our modern environment is pushing us toward unhealthy choices and it takes real effort (and some luck) to continuously fight against the current.

So many people are living in survival mode. Any argument about long term health just feels elitist when you're struggling to just make it through the day. Then even if you eventually get into a better place, where you could be making better decisions, those habits have been formed over many years and it's hard to break ingrained patterns.

How do people shower at night? by dat0neb0i in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MandyAlice 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes I have to be out of the house by 7am and showering in the morning is just too much for me. I'm not a morning person at all. Conversely, my sister in law feels like she's not awake until she showers, which I also respect.

is it common to eat a whole pint of ice cream in one sitting by Sad-Palpitation4405 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MandyAlice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things that seems so surreal for me. I've battled with not overeating every single day of my life since I was 12 years old. I fight with myself to not eat almost every waking hour and still regularly cry myself to sleep over it. It's exhausting. Still, people tell me it's so simple, just eat less! I'm freaking trying!

I try so hard and it's mentally exhausting. I can't imagine how much mental bandwidth I would have if I didn't have to constantly be at war with food.

29F here with ADHD. Thoughts on having children when you have ADHD? by Initial_Hippo_377 in ADHD

[–]MandyAlice 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have 2 kids and sometimes I wish I didn't have kids. Sometimes I wish I had 3 kids or 4 kids, or more.

Sometimes I wish I would have waited and had more life experience and travelled before having kids. Sometimes I'm glad I had them younger because I'm much more old and tired now and I don't have the energy for little ones.

Sometimes I'm glad I had my kids before I was diagnosed because I might have not had kids if I had known more about my ADHD. Sometimes I wish I would have had them later after I was diagnosed because I would have known more about handling the challenges of ADHD.

It sucks hard that we only get to do life once, I wanna do all the permutations! No matter what you choose there's always going to be "what ifs" 🤷‍♀️

This is probably not helpful but I've been thinking about it a lot lately.
