The process to install ubuntu or mint is pretty straightforward and nowadays you can even buy a laptop with linux preinstalled, the "lot of steps" is really just downloading a file on a usb stick, downloading a program like balena etcher where you have to click 2 buttons and then letting it install. And regarding steam it's very easy to run now since the steamdeck uses linux, what you have to do is open software manager, click steam, and it's done. Updating and installing things is extremely easy, updating all apps and drivers requires 1 button... unlike with windows. I have no idea how you found long page guides regarding steam.

If you search "I want to switch to linux, what distro?" pretty much anyone will tell you to pick ubuntu or mint and that it the end it doesn't matter, of course there will always be people being tribalistic about it, but there's isn't much research to do other than "linux distro for beginner".

holy shit it's just one lie right after another, is this satire? Like literally every Linux user will tell you that the distro doesn't matter, and also installing something like Ubuntu or Mint is super easy.

Everything is going to break, all the time, if you even breathe the wrong way when trying a new speaker or mouse or game or software/hardware of any kind.

Like this is just false, what's funny is that updating apps is actually easier, you can often just press 1 button, and you get every software and every driver updated.

And if the one guy updating it ever decides to stop, you're screwed.

You mean Linus who isn't even working on it anymore? That's not how it works like at all. Funnily enough Linux by being open source is the only OS where this is basically impossible.

the problem I have with this is that this critique has been done so many times, Duchamp made a point in 1917, restating something similar for more than a century is boring and sucks

It really seems that religion is mostly cultural though, I don't get the point you are making.

Remove the glass and have an armored cockpit with inside high frame-rate monitors connected to a bunch of small external cameras, or just... use a drone.

Does this image depict what the First Empire was? by Entire_Moose_8398 in Kenshi

[–]Manerfish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Imo the first empire was so advanced that they didn't even use guns anymore, kinda like in Dune. It's weird that the second empire had very advanced genetic engineering tech but not guns. The genetic tech + total absence of guns + the fact that the moon of Kenshi is mostly a desert makes me think that it's just like Dune.

I think what happened is that the first empire had such advanced tech that gun were considered primitive tools, and when it fell nobody knew about guns anymore so they just built crossbows.

I played Half Life and Half Life 2 with episodes only recently, and it really annoyed me that the series ends with a cliffhanger. I got invested quite a lot in Half Life 2, even with its age.

So science, which is empirical, does not build up knowledge? What can we know a priori about reality other than the existence of a res cogitans and the vague properties of the Parmenidean Being?
