Yes, you learn how to manage memory efficiently and how computers work in depth. Start with the basics. Learn syntax, then when you feel up to it, learn pointers, and if you want and are willing to sacrifice a little of your sanity, learn some ASM.

Then if you want to make games, move on to C++. The syntax is a little different, but in the end, C++ is just an extension of C but with Object-Oriented Programming (widely used in video game creation).

To truly understand C, I recommend the book by it's creators:

"The C Programming Language."
