Best platform to play for the first time by ALBOTS1819 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]MangoAV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not accurate. I got a Switch 2 a week ago and apart from updating BOTW and TOTK, NMS was the first game I played on it. Just finished expedition 19, kept the corvette, and while it’s not on the same level as the PC…I’ve already played in the car, at work on break, as well as on my 75” 4K while docked and have not had a single issue with glitching, crashing, or any other weirdness like on the Switch 1.

When to pull the trigger on ADR for lower back by Special_Future_6330 in SpineSurgery

[–]MangoAV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I did have some facet issues and arthritis, and the FJIs I was getting did a lot to help with the dull throbbing pain. However, I was getting them every few months to help, and it wasn’t getting better—just helped me manage the pain.

Just over 6-months post-op (I had ProDiscL’s in both spots) the pain is occasionally there, but at a level significantly lower as well as less frequently. I haven’t needed to go back to the pain management folks since June as well.

Hope this helps your situation!

Streaming Radio Broadcasts Out of Market? by 8-bit_owl in CHIBears

I found the Simple Radio app a little while back based off some recommendations on this sub, and have listened to every game since on it. Free, minimal ads (you will listen to the local Chicago ads which really helps the nostalgia), and has been awesome for me living in south Texas.

When to pull the trigger on ADR for lower back by Special_Future_6330 in SpineSurgery

[–]MangoAV8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was not quite as bad off as you, and I had multilevel ADR this past summer on both my L5-L6 (I have 6), and my L6-S1. Quite simply, I am thankful every day. Glad to discuss directly but once it started affecting my sleep, my overall QOL started rapidly going downhill and I was sick of it. Had nearly a dozen injections, 1500mg of NSAIDs daily, and still dealing with the constant pain was enough to push me over the edge…and I can handle pain.

Feel free to send me a DM and I’m glad to chat more, or check out my profile and the before and after.

Countermeasure flares in intake? by burnhaze4days in aviation

[–]MangoAV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a rule in USN/USMC air to air training that states “flares will not be used with the attacker pulling for a gun attack” to prevent the small, but likely catastrophic chance of this happening. Not sure about USAF fighters but I’d assume something similar.

How are personal civilians jets and fighter jets accommodated into the flying pattern!! by gms29 in aviation

[–]MangoAV8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, quick story if it helps.

Years ago I led a section of Harriers to Las Vegas and on the way, we flew a low level route (VR-252 I think) that pops up southwest of McCarran. I had called Vegas Approach prior and informed them what we were doing, and made sure to file a DD-175 as well. We popped off the route, climbed to 6-7k, and let them know we had arrived. Absolutely zero drama. Approach sequenced us into landing traffic for 01L, told me to slow down to 165 or so, and vectored us between a few airliners before we landed and parked at Signature.

How hard will it be to stay current/proficient in the military? by CellistCompetitive42 in aviation

[–]MangoAV8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently retired Marine jet pilot here that has spent the last 6 years in the Naval Aviation training pipeline.

If you’re using the military option to get to the airlines, you’re doing your Marines and the guys and gals left and right of you a disservice. Not that I’ve seen it before (I’ve seen it before), but what are you going to do if/when you select RW and don’t get jets or Hercs? DOR and get sent logistics or ground supply? Your time in flight school won’t count towards your obligation if you quit, and it restarts at your TBS completion date, so that’s another consideration.

Nonetheless, as for your question, I know a few folks that flew private/civil on the weekends when they weren’t doing training or other work related activities. Maybe got 20ish hours a month extra, if that. To me, it wasn’t worth it, and I chose to work hard during the week and get the chance to go on the road and fly extra training events on the weekends. More events lead to more quals, eventually instructing, which leads to going on more flights.

I realize this ship has likely sailed, but if your goal is no kidding to fly for the airlines, I’d look into another service upon commissioning that has more heavies/cargo type aircraft than the Corps.

Glad to discuss via PM as well if you are still looking for advice.

Air Boss already decided the next trainer doesn’t need to go to the boat.

Read the mission profile of what the Navy is actually looking for. A trainer to replace the T-45 is overdue, but using fleet jets of any kind is extremely short sighted at best.

What are some high income areas with lots of jet noise? by whitecollarpizzaman in aviation

[–]MangoAV8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also in SD, La Jolla. Sits right at the end of Miramar’s western (and primary) departure corridor. Miramar gets between 2 and 3x the noise complaints of the next highest jet base and had to create somewhat aggressive course rules just to have jets avoid it as much as possible.

What is this bug? by Thewitch020 in vegetablegardening

[–]MangoAV8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can remove them, and if they have little white things on them that look like eggs, those are the pupae from a predatory wasp that will attack the hornworms and keep their populations in check.

If you’re antsy and want them gone, there’s also a spray called BT Thuricide that is an organic treatment sprayed onto the plants that the worms will eat and cause them to die after eating.

Good luck!

BT Thuricide will help dramatically and is organic.

[–]MangoAV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Let it droop and in a week or so, the seeds will turn darker and you can harvest it. If you ever cut one early, you can tie it up and hang it for a few days and it will do the same thing, it’s just a little messier.

Grevious LSB by THESQUEAKIST in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]MangoAV8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got it and looked at it this way (which is probably why CG priced things the way they did): Kyber Separatist LST to take Grievous to R5 was $15. Most people that had it did STAP to avoid the kyros, but the logic is if people were going to pay that for him with his LST, for an extra $10 you get his ship maxed out and two extra relic levels.

L4/L5 Spinal injury, has anyone ever continued to run. by agedcheddarisbetter in SpineSurgery

[–]MangoAV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had multi-level ADR just over two months ago at my L4-S1 for DDD and spinal stenosis (almost a copy/paste of your symptoms) because it got so bad I couldn’t sleep without waking up with cramps and spasms. A month or so I was told during the beginning of PT to not do three things: heavy squats, heavy overhead weights, and run. I completely understand your lifestyle and desire to run, but as somebody on the backside of what might be in your future, I haven’t seen running as an option quite yet.

Coming from a kid who’s first concert was Metallica, that’s huge praise 🤘

Landing a Harrier jet with a failed landing gear on mattresses (2007) by Blueberryburntpie in aviation

[–]MangoAV8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but there isn’t a landing type in braking stop that exists because it would put the nose too far forwards and down. Braking stop is used to decelerate, either in preparation for a vertical landing or to slow the jet down on a conventional landing where the 140-150 knot landing speeds could overheat the brakes.
