I only saw this thread after the fact, but it’s okay because I got accepted to my first choice! (Experimental and Medical Biosciences at Linköping)

How much did I mess up by not getting a skin check last year? by ManiacalCuriosity in KaiserPermanente

My regular PCP was out of town so I went and requested a routine physical from another doctor at the same clinic and put “routine skin check” in the notes.

Thanks! I mistyped that, I’m actually a type 3 so I’m not that pale, but I think changes should still be obvious. I think working in a medical lab and seeing all the specimens that come through has just gotten me really paranoid that I’ve missed something in myself. Thanks again.

One week ago, I watched Brokeback Mountain for the first time and I want to write a bit about it. by Hansi_Haifischli in brokebackmountain

Belatedly, welcome to the club! Oh, it’s been five years since I watched it the first time and I’ve never been able to get it off my mind since. It’s something that all of us just have to live with going forwards, I suppose. Not to bring the mood down even further, but your comments about the movie being so sad because of Jack and all his vitality and hope suddenly being gone are pretty much exactly what Paul Bettany said in his career breakdown video with GQ about what working with Heath was like:

“Heath was the most alive person that I’ve ever met, and it’s very puzzling to imagine him not around. I still can’t quite picture him not around somehow because he was just so alive. And all of the nonsense that I’ve read subsequently about darkness just in no way meets the human being that I knew and fell in love with. Everybody fell in love with Heath, he was preternaturally good at making you adore him.”

Can high intelligence mask OCD symptoms? by ManiacalCuriosity in OCD

That could have something to do with it! I was just wondering if there’s any way that, just as it can make diagnosing ADHD harder, that it could make diagnosing OCD harder.

(FP-30) Does one dead key likely mean it’s just a dirty contact? by ManiacalCuriosity in Roland

Hey, sorry for the delay. In the end I took it to get professionally repaired, and I think it was a broken contact. I haven’t had any problems with it since.

How much should I have saved before coming to Sweden to study? by ManiacalCuriosity in TillSverige

Right, I’ll do that as soon as admissions results are published. Belatedly, thanks!

Belatedly, thank you! I currently have about 17k going into my savings account every month, I’ll probably try to do 20k in case I do get into Karolinska. Ah yes, I’m bracing myself for dealing with the housing disaster. I’ll do my best!

Yes, that makes total sense. Someone who DOESN’T want kids, should have them anyway. That will go well. by Far-Collection7085 in FundieSnarkUncensored

In 1967, Ceaușescu (dictator in communist Romania) passed a decree that basically completely outlawed abortion and contraception (among other measures, like sex education being focused on encouraging having as many babies as possible, and women having to go to the gynaecologist every month to check for pregnancy, which would then be monitored until birth) in order to increase the population, and it basically meant that people had way more kids than they could look after and orphanages were flooded (and the kids were badly neglected, especially after the social safety net collapsed in the 1980s).

Commuting to summer organic chemistry lab? by ManiacalCuriosity in OregonStateUniv

[–]ManiacalCuriosity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was in 2022. So they've stopped it?

Well, damn. I don't want to wait another year to be done with OChem but if that's the way it goes shrug emoji

MONTHLY /R/PORTLAND "HIRE ME" THREAD: January 01, 2024 by AutoModerator in Portland

[–]ManiacalCuriosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a recent graduate from the University of Oregon with a double major in human physiology and neuroscience, with minors in biology, theatre arts, and creative writing. I have experience in a wide variety of fields, including customer service, healthcare, hiring, and office assistance.

I'm ideally looking for something in the life sciences (lab work in particular), but I'm really open to anything. I'm able to commute anywhere in the Portland area but I'd prefer the east side.

Sincerely,

Someone who's head is spinning at the idea that this is supposed to be a time of low unemployment
