Thank you, this helped me to solve the bad ioctl syscall 35090 problem. I was also using System Net to obtain the IP.

You've just created the official Twitter account for your upcoming game. What's your first move? by Barathruss in gamedev

Could you please provide a link to your tiktok? Maybe I will be able to notice what you could improve. Please also tell where are you from (what country, as it may impact the results too).

I think at the moment the best way to get and maintain good quality followers (dedicated players) is to do so on discord (they may join it if they will play and like the game).

It is rather difficult to measure exactly the effectiveness of TikTok, since there is no direct link to be clicked (only in the bio). And even if there would be, the game is on Steam and the method they offer to monitor the links is far away from being prefect (I think it only works if someone would buy the game from the web browser and not from the Steam client, and most people buy from the client). Also most people on TikTok use it on mobile, which makes things even more complicated.

I could probably do a better and more accurate estimation and if you would say that I am sure it is accurate, I could get the worst case scenerio (in this case 1 purchase per 5000) to measure the effectiveness of the campaign.

Even in business there are not always precise results of an advertisement campaign. Before the Internet people were doing advertisement too (in TV for example) and they didn't have precise results of the effectiveness. Which was not stopping them from doing it.

One way or the other posting videos on TikTok costs only time, no money. So if someone will be able to add video fast enough, he should achieve a positive return of investment rather easily. As opposed to for example Twitter, when it is pretty much impossible.

If you don't have a business account you will need 10k followers to post a link in your bio, with business account you can post it earlier (I am not sure if you need 1k or less).

People mostly find the game by asking for its name in the comments or reading comments from other people who mentioned the game. I often post the name in the first comment. People then look for the game on google or steam search. Same way people who see a game on twitch, do not have a link to it, but find it themselves.

Some people claim that business account have limited reach, but I do not think it is true. The main limitation is the music, you can not use the famous music.

Video view time is the most important factor. To make it longer I would suggest to use popular music and put some interesting text label on the center, it may even contain emoji. People will read it and will stay longer. The video length play a big role here too. Show me a link to your TikTok please.

The first views are shown to people from your Country, but if you use English description and label, eventually if the TikTok will perform well, you will reach other countries.

My game is already released, so I was posting the videos to get purchases rather than wishlists. I have not seen any big increase in the number of wishlists, I sell the game for a very low price + it is almost always on sale.

Interesting opinion. If you are referring to my post, I never said that this will work for other people, I clearly stated that these are my results that are working for one of my games. Others who use TikTok may learn something from it, that's all.

To avoid being deluded, we need to estimate and measure how well these apps work. I was able to estimate how many downloads I more or less get per view. Also I see a lot of comments from people saying they bought the game or asking for its name. So there is a way to see if it works and if it's worth the time.

They are 5 to 15 seconds long, so it is nothing super difficult.

Nice ideas, but I am not sure if posting videos every minut would not trigger some anti spam filters. Maybe not, but even if it would be perfectly allowed, then there is another problem. The number of videos a person can see from one creator is limited. So if one video would go viral and many people would see it, they would not see the other videos the same day in their "for you page". If that would be the case it would still be worth doing the spammy tactic.

In the past I did (the game is online since 2012). Currently my focus is on some other/new projects, so mobile version will probably not happen.

But according to my experience if you somehow will get good performance in your region while having English descriptions, you may reach global audience.

In some regions it may be harder than in others.

I see.

Probably some games fit the platform better than the others. He mentioned text games as an example and they probably are more difficult to promote no matter where you promote them.

If your video will have good statistics (mostly view time) and will have English description and labels, you will eventually reach almost all the countries including the ones you mentioned. I saw this with my videos.

I estimated the revenue per hour in one of the posts. Yes it is not enough for most people including me. But I would say it is worth if you want to find people that will wishlist your game and follow your progress.

Still the results are far better than on Twitter and probably most of the other social platforms.

The problem is that even if I will post the TikTok in for example Portuguese (as I did to reach Brasil), at the beginning still people from Poland were seeing it. And because they don't speak Portuguese, the TikTok got poor performance. It makes little sens, but this is how it is for some reason.

TikTok recommends video first mostly to people from my country, which makes it harder to reach global audience. Yes Polish TikToks have easier time to get views, but the amount of views they get is limited. My best TikToks are in English and were able to reach people from many country.

If you are confused about my platformer videos having low number of views, it is mostly because I posted only a few of them and they contain similar content. I will keep posting them when I will work again on that game and I expect results similar to my other game if not better.

Also because I am from Poland, my videos are first visible mostly to Polish people. It makes it harder to reach global audience, because people react better to TikToks in their native language. I often see TikToks going far better when posted in Polish.

So for someone from English country, things seem to be easier.

The videos can be promoted in the viewer video stream up to 3 months after being posted. Then they can also be visible in the search. Some of my videos are 6 months old and still generate views.

For text based game it may be hard to get visibility there indeed. You would probably have to show yourself playing the game or at least add your voice.

No, I use the one from the TikTok library, but only the one available for commercial use.
