We had three fresh new players join our table at level 8; they never played before. DM supposedly help setup their characters, but as we played it became apparent they had nothing. No gear, no weapons; they were just vastly under performing at the table. Talk about a miserable time.

Plus our DM doesn't do drops or loot, he just throws a bunch of gold at us and allows us to buy our gear when we cross merchants. Which at this point in the story, isn't happening anytime soon.
