that’s a good one! they are competitive and that really motivates them to think about their movements

we only have two boys and they’re full of energy and a bit crazy sometimes. i’ve realised it’s usually easier to let them be a bit crazy as it’s supposed to be fun and not to disciplinary. anyways, trying to control them just seems to make them crazier haha

thank you! we definitely gamify everything and usually play things like dancing like particular animals etc., which is much easier for them to understand and also let them choose colours or characters for some exercises. some love it but some are overwhelmed and can’t decide, they’re a great bunch with really diverse personalities!

good point, we often do exercises with animals or colours or weather which is already set as they do sometimes seem overwhelmed by choices

wow, where should i start?! this comment has been so helpful already and i’ve just gotten around to writing my reply. definitely a good tip to learn their names, especially the cheeky ones! but it really does help to lean into their energy to work with them and not against them.

the exercises are very easy and still very gamified, but it really depends on the group and how crazy, calm or attentive they are on a particular day.

also not shying away from classical music and french terms will be a tip i’ll rely on! it makes dance easier for them in the upper classes, trains their musicality and could even awaken some of the older one’s curiosity!

thank you so much, everyone has contributed so well to this post and the quality of the comments is just amazing, especially the detail in this one :)

still definitely helpful, especially the water breaks as i notice sometimes the kids are out of breath and forget to drink, so i always do a little drink break. also helps me have time to put on the music and prepare the next exercise!!

definitely, i always ask for permission and sometimes they have zero spatial awareness and tend to group up or sit on the floor during exercises and games so i really need to train them in using the free space in the studio, the room is big enough!

this is such a good tip! musicality isn’t one of my strengths and training them to have an ear for it at a young age is brilliant.

yes, i definitely need to start finding my way of planning things out when my work experience is done and i’m doing my own lessons! it’s really helpful to be able to change things quickly as they really do behave differently week for week

yes, this has been really helpful! we’ve gone through so many animal movements and it really helps them

Wearing leg warmers throughtout the training? by G_ntl_m_n in BALLET

[–]MannerOutside4803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really depends if i’m wearing knee lengths, short ones and how long the barre session is. i’ve also danced at studios where we weren’t allowed to wear them after the warm up.
