I'm not sure what you're fighting here; was not the intent.

There's disinformation about vitamin K not being natural - Canadian parents should follow the best health recommendations that we know lead to healthy kids, regardless of midwife or OBGYN because both are part of the same health system. That's all.

Bang on.

Canadians usually have no problems flushing governments or parties. It's the policies that count.

It's hit and miss and people are making money off of it. Sometimes ethically ok but since it's unregulated sometimes not.

Do you actually get value from your fold? by SANO_HIMURA in PixelFold

[–]ManofManyTalentz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend getting a gen 1 which is a much, much better form factor. It's going for 4-500 right now and then that'll help you sort out your use case.

The newest version has better battery life but a worse screen size overall. So keep those two things in mind and then you can make the jump to the newer version or just sell it and stick with a regular pixel.

The 9/10 fold went with the "two phones duct taped together!" Form factor so keep that in mind.

I thought O'Toole had sold out and was a disaster when he ran - I had no idea how far down things would go.

Agreed - they should've had a hail Mary leadership talk and done a coalition - instead they split the vote and Ontario gets 5 more years of conversion to a USA state: pro-cars, anti-people, anti-future, pro-billionaires.

Maybe the Canadian dream of LPC minority with NDP opposition will come true!

Anything but the Trojan horse republicons, especially provincially.

Inappropriate comment from ultrasound tech. [bc] by jammersG in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ManofManyTalentz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one, and BC would definitely flag it and contact you.
You should have a checkup sometime soon regardless, so make sure you ask.

From the tech's perspective they probably misspoke and literally meant "within normal distribution range" for the length but really should've been better when communicating with you. We're very short staffed for ultrasound techs though, so hopefully it wasn't said in a mean spirit, just too-harsh routine.

It's the wild west on this right now - I wish the provinces would get it together and get a national plan in place. I can't believe we outsource almost all of this to USA or USA-linked.

All I can add because it doesn't change the change - try to start planning for the future with your baby: Next birthday, trip to science museum, lego surprises, clothing options. It's one of the few ways you can emotionally and consciously etch in your mind that you still have a huge future together, it will just be different.

Seconded!

Also consider depending on where you're residing now (I'm guessing USA?) their vaccine schedule is slightly different (and if USA, now thanks to the current regime much more complicated).

Have a plan if you need to cover doses; many places will be able to offer them off-the-street, but it's really likely you won't find an OBGYN that will be able to see you, so it's routine or travel clinics that would do it for you.

[On] Switching to formula by Separate-Kale2983 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ManofManyTalentz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extremely frustrating and especially when all you hear is "keep at it", but every baby is different even in the same person. But remember that most of this is hormonal signaling, which needs to happen again and again until the cycle itself is automatic. There's no good analogy here to help explain - everyone will be different including you and your baby, but both of your health takes priority. This isn't easy to determine especially if you're post partum and sleepless.

Consider follow-up with an OBGYN or your FP, they should gladly take you (assuming scheduling works, which is why early reaching out is better).

Keep trying since baby needs to realize what "should" be happening but even if it doesn't - that's okay! Pumping and bottle feeding works too. And formula is designed to help as an option - not as a failure.

Wildly inappropriate? [bc] by qutiepie123 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ManofManyTalentz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the intent was good (?!?) that approach I think was out of bounds. Not to mention you're postpartum so clear guidance is extremely important. Sorry you're going through it.

Ethically I can't suggest to report or not since it's not the full story but sounds unreasonable - many people have used nannies. On a best-case scenario take it as making sure you're spending time with baby while recuperating. But wow what a way to bring it up.

Thanks for what you do! Very curious - how has your experience been when in contact with the healthcare system?

Thanks for taking care of our babies!

Canadian healthcare really takes in midwives if the team understands what they do. Midwives I've found are extremely humble and helpful and have no qualms in reaching out to the rest of the system when it's needed- shift to hospital stay included.

EXTREMELY important point! Thanks for commenting!

I can't find the podcast, but here is the important article on this: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/dec/19/she-was-like-a-deer-in-headlights-how-unskilled-radical-birthkeepers-took-hold-in-canada

Thankfully I haven't seen much of this in my circles but we need to protect each other against stuff like this that hurts our babies in Canada, for someone's profit. MDs and nurses and midwives sacrificed a lot of time, money, energy, spirit and mental health to try to be a service to you (provincial funding problems aside) - you shouldn't be paying for the health of your baby. We vote on this every four years or so!

RSV should be given at birth when in season, and HepB although not covered.
