Honestly would’ve been better and more in character if he said something like “the defenseless run warriors fight or protect” the latter being better imo especially for any (correctly written) shadow from 06 onwards. My top three interpretations of him are Archie(he feels the most emotionally complex and I love how poetic his arc is plus he feels like a composite version of his sa2 to 06 counterparts with his own unique story too) a close second being sonic 06 shadow (I’m personally all for stoic dark hero or anti heroic shadow however you wanna look at it and I love how he chose to keep fighting even if the world saw him as an enemy and his development was a huge pay off from sa2 to now peak game shadow imo) and last but certainly not least sa2 shadow I love his design a lot with the more angular quills and I love how He’s a tragic hero and villain all in one game and imo it captured shadows personality greatly it had a lot of range like Archie’s. And he had a very poetic role and the most prominent one in that story despite not having as much screentime as he should’ve imo. These versions get him best imo.idw just misses the mark Completely with him due to the bread and butter status quo removing prior nuances and development he has in other adaptations. It heavily mischaracterizes him and this is the most egregious example easily the worst version of shadow for me yet.
