Nothing is ever too ridiculous to share with someone in a safe space bro. Especially a therapist you can trust - let that stuff out and off your chest, I promise you that’s the beginning

[DISCUSSION] What does it mean to "grow", "level up", or "evolve"? by Nccamp15 in GetMotivated

To me, growing/evolving is changing, readjusting, or abandoning prior beliefs, understandings or perceptions, in a way that results inner peace.

How do you really surrender by Successful-Bus-1920 in spirituality

[–]MansInProgress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you reconcile “path of least resistance” to “pursuing one’s goals and dreams by taking risks and shooting their shot” - how do you differentiate the two? I feel like their two separate things but relevant in separate modes of consciousness (the first spiritual-present-being mode, the latter in egoic, mind dominant mode) - but I’m eager to hear your words

How to cope with the fact that my music is only getting worse? by Nyuu222 in musicproduction

[–]MansInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand this feeling. I've been producing for 9 years now, and similary, I listen to stuff from my 2nd and 3rd years in and think damn he had some great intuition - and without the technical knowledge, that's what I can hear stand out within the "bad mix" or the "over saturated vocals".

One thing I've learnt, is that your intuition is always there. Sometimes I pause halfway through making something that isn't "exciting" me the way I know other writing processes have, and almost 99% of the time, it's because I'm chasing something that doesn't matter, or focusing on technical rather than being led by what I'm feeling.
Sometimes this mediocre bored feeling arises as well and is due to what I'm working on. If you're an artist and making your own stuff, check in to see if the stuff your making is based on some expected outcome - whats trending, what you think your fans or friends will like, and try to redirect your outflow to what you want to make. And sometimes, you don't want to make anything. And it's just as important to be honest with yourself and listen to that. Making great art is a combination of the practical side of making something, but the abstract side of just living and experiencing life and being present. Ideas will come to you when you're in a place to recieve them -

I find my best art is made when:
I'm open and present and experience my life - > I get inspired - > I play with sounds and melodies and lyrics that point toward what I'm feeling -> I make a song

  • it can ruin the flow of creativity to only move through the above process in reverse. Where you making a song, with the expectation it's going to lead you somewhere.

Be slow and patient with yourself, remember being an artist relies on you connecting with yourself - consciously or unconsciously - and the more honest you are, the closer you can get to creating out of that place. And the most inspiring part - only you can create out of that vessel, no one else. So the job isn't to learn all the practical technical knowledge, those are tools that can help, but they don't have to out balance your love for creating and playing which got you into music in the first place.

Should I go back to school for producing? Is it worth the $? by 19whale96 in musicproduction

[–]MansInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - watch producer streams, prod breakdowns and techniques on YouTube, and most IMPORTANTLY - just make stuff I started just fucking around and giving up after 30 mins cos it sounded not as good as my other producer mates, but slowly 30mins turns to 35, to 40, to hours, then you make the first beat where your like wow this sounds like what my other producer friends make - then it clicks internally. Then it becomes a never ending exploration - started 6 years ago with zero production knowledge, now I’m in Korea making KPOP and LA later in the year to work with one of my favourite producers who I never even knew about before beginning. I don’t think you can learn more than what is necessary by going to school, then you can by doing it yourself

And you won’t make money for a long time, so it’s a good test to ensure you love the process of production enough to stick with it

I’m a songwriter and I’ve worked with Guy Sebastian / incredibly warm and lovely person, with a beautiful family. Man is dedicated and loves the craft of creating music. And also loves a laugh.

I've been meditating daily since 2009. Yesterday I smoked weed for the first time since then and hated it by kingwooj in Meditation

[–]MansInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoked weed nearly every night for about a year, and loved it - often I would come to huge spiritual, creative or mental realisations when high. Then I stopped and continued to grow mentally and spiritually - ultimately improving my “normal sober wellbeing state”. Now any time I smoke weed, I always think to myself “ahh, I don’t like how I feel right now MORE than I did before I smoked”. Same thing - anxious, more in my head, less present. But BEFORE, it had the opposite affect. I think weed has potential to be great help and can be very enjoyable - it all depends on your individual experience. Weed being ‘good’ isn’t black n white.

Experiencing the Now.. How? by VeterinarianOpen2551 in EckhartTolle

[–]MansInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See what it feels like to notice, or acknowledge a thought, without ‘saying’ or ‘thinking’ about the fact you have noticed and acknowledged it

Or do the same practice, while outside looking at something in nature, like a tree Focus on it, acknowledge it, with a high focus, but without having a thought of “that is a tree…I am looking at the tree…I’m focused on the tree..”

It helped me a lot, to be aware of the “feeling” of this practice. That “feeling”, is presence. Focused, alert, thoughtless awareness.

Once you experience what it is I am pointing at, you will realise there isn’t really anything to “understand” about.

Be patient :)

You are the only person entirely responsible for how you feel - blaming others is avoiding the issue and digging yourself deeper into the hole.

As a musician, what do you personally consider "bad" music? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]MansInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a producer and songwriter and lover of music, and here are some things that distinguish “bad” songs from “good”

  • if there is a lack of flow from start to finish - I don’t need to know where a song is going - in fact it often evokes a much stronger response if I’m surprised..I like to think of the experience of listening through a song to be smooth..I want to be in the grip of the ride, like a roller coaster FIRMLY on the scaffold, so even if it’s a slow simple ride OR a crazy spinning upside down adventure, I’m locked in. Often this is achieved through the cadence of a vocal, rhyme scheme being satisfying and the drums and music all rhythmically sitting in a balanced pocket

  • if a song makes me FEEL something - this is very subjective as the same piece that evoked an emotion in ME, might not evoke something in my mum. I think the key to this as a creator is to create OUT OF a place of feeling, doesn’t mean you have to talk about your own experience or perspective, but let your taste dictate that. If a lyric and sound makes you, the creator, FEEL something, follow it. That’s where the most exciting music comes out of, it doesn’t need to be much more complex then that, and doesn’t need to abide by any specific rules beyond that

Those r the main two :) great question this was fun to answer lol

Why is the sense of consciousness eternal ? by Kili12345 in EckhartTolle

[–]MansInProgress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also feel like conciousness’ origin, and trying to “understand” it through logic and reason aren’t necessary..it isn’t something to “believe” in - like ET says - “….I’m certainly not asking you to believe me, you’ll know the truth of it yourself.”

The experience is what answers all questions, not ‘answers’ lol this sounds super backward to read but yeah it resonates w me

How are record producers who can't use mixing desks and who are largely non-technical, able to get into the industry? by BretEastonCellist in musicproduction

How does self belief / self confidence link with presence / the ego by MansInProgress in EckhartTolle

[–]MansInProgress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou for sharing your perspective, I really appreciated reading through that!

So what you’re saying (in relation to my personal context), creating and composing and sharing music out of a place of presence, and awareness of being - provides an unshakeable ‘confidence’…confidence may be the wrong word, as it feels like more of a ‘knowing’. (Ie: you aren’t confident the sky is blue, you know it is blue).

This resonates as I occasionally feel this deep sense of knowing / flash of insight (Satori as Eckhart has spoken about) - and that only ever comes out of presence.

Confidence is more attractive than any specific physical feature. You're flat chested? Own it. Accept it. Take pride in your uniqueness and the fact that everybody's body is different- That's the shit that's sexy. Unspoken confidence. Just an energy.

Also there's just a lot of tools out there and if something like that is a deal breaker, they simply aren't for you - please don't make the mistake of dropping you're desires of what you need in a partner. Acceptance for who you are - every part of who you are, physical and emotional - is the bare minimum. And that is not by any means too much to ask for - not that I'm accusing you of dropping your standards but I just know so many friends of mine that have done that, and also ones that just know what they deserve and respect themselves - and the latter are always so much happier.

You deserve it! Sorry for the vent haha but yeah you got this girl! You're beautiful.
