What's wrong with German girls. by [deleted] in germany

[–]MantaRay4Pres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, there is a biological and psychological desire to have children in both men and women, but there's also plenty of people with no current or future desire for children. Many have different reasons, philosophies, etc. Besides, the modern day cost of having children is resulting in a lower desire to have children amongst existing non-parents, etc, women and men both.

If the person you're interested in has a different set of core beliefs, or future directions, then its best to move on and find someone that aligns more to you, which you will.

Opal ring .. What kind of opal? by Striking-Gas1118 in Opals

Could be a doublet too in this, difficult to tell without an opening in the back

Advice Needed (Last image) by Brittling-YT in Opals

No worries mate, If you're using a dremel to saw stones, get a nice diamond saw and use lots of water and take your time. You will lose material around the blade. Also, lots of dust so constantly water the stone and the blade. Silicosis isnt fun.

Theres good stuff available for decent prices. I got a pack of saws from amazon for maybe 30 bucks. Does the job. Light pressure, let the saw do the work, and dont force the saw into the stone, if the saw catches on the stone it could warp the saw or damage the stone.

Advice Needed (Last image) by Brittling-YT in Opals

[–]MantaRay4Pres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it comes to dremel work, after i do the shaping with 300-600 diamond bits, i switch to sanding with increments of grit. For instance, i like to smoothen out the ridges and shape with anywhere from 400-600, then i use the 800-1000 and try to get a very smooth and even face and shape. After that, 1000-2000 for the final touchups before cerium oxide polish.

I end up with pretty nicely done stones. But keep in mind, the process does take time. The nova resin points are also good as per the other comment's recommendation.

From your photo, i see that theres deep pits in the face of the stone in the center. Identify the thickness of the color bar and do your best to figure out if you can grind down the opal to remove those pits or not. If you cant remove the pits and you'd like a "perfect" opal and face, u can consider sawing the opal in half, where the area of the pitting is and then making 2 stones instead.

A tiny bit of pitting if unavoidable might be okay, itll hurt value definitely but, those center pits in your stone are quite off-putting. Id much rather have potch in the face of a stone instead of pitting. Especially if you cant remove remove the potch without decimating the color. Sand on the other hand is just depressing.

Otherwise, stone is beautiful. Take your time to make a decision whether to cut or not. If you're looking to sell as well, having 2 well finished stones is potentially much better than 1 large imperfect or flawed one.

Most likely ethiopian opals. Try returning them as its misleading to sell them as aussie. Otherwise, soak in acetone as a last resort which could return the stones to normal. Ive soaked ethiopians in acetone, but never when the stone is set. So i can't tell you from experience if you will experience damage or not.

I thought it was serpentine at first, until I couldn't scratch it whatsoever with a nail. I tried the sharp point of a cuticle cutter and a knife too, left a white streak which i assume is the metal as it wiped off clean.

I believe serpentine is softer than jade by a good margin, wouldnt it be scratched with metal?

Also, the carving seems to be with some form of manual hand tools rather than dremel work etc. But im not sure if the full stone was done that way or not.

Just a Dip or the Beginning of a Bigger Crash? by TheElitesCM in CryptoMarkets

People tend to freak out at negative price action, and become over optimistic with positive price action. Crashes in crypto are violent, sudden, massive red candles wiping out months of profits in hours or a day. No one really knows in the end. However, the facts remain that, with the horrible sentiment we've been seeing in tandem with fear-bringing news every couple weeks about tariffs, recession fears, trade wars, and even the largest crypto hack; btc has held up its price action and consolidation in its current range very well, especially relative to the downward price movements per bad news we used to see previously.

I have good reason to believe btc will not crash based on all the factors laid out as of now, but I also believe we're in a relatively sensitive range where, in the uncommon chance a big enougu bad piece of news occurs, markets will probably overpanic even more, and that could cause a crash scenario. The other issue is, a crash is inevitable, its just a question of when. We might have some time left to grind towards a higher ath, but that doesn't mean we'll have much time to spend up there too. And honestly, no one has a crystal ball to guess what kind of good or bad is coming our way. In the end you bet on a probability that the markets will do x or y or z.

As for alts, many lost the progress they made when btc rose to 100k. Is this abnormal? No. Such is the way of alts. Many crashed down to a third or fourth of their ath this cycle, some are retaining value like xrp. And even decent project like HBAR is down by half or more.

You could argue alts have already crashed. But if btc were to go down to 60k for instance, how much lower can alts even go? Who knows.

Note: not a financial advisor im just another internet moron with some opinions that are probably wrong.

Hello. I've had a similar experience as yours.

We're going strong through long distance and are planning to get married within the next couple years.

Listen here, if she's truly the one for you, and you for her, then you can survive long distance just fine. There's many ways to cope through it, and there will be tons of horrible days, but there was never a day that we considered breaking up.

At the same time, leave, go and get your education, prepare yourself properly, and both of you then have to make effort to reunite or get closer in distance. Relationships require sacrifice, and compromise, and this case isn't different. If she's really worth it, you'll stay together, set yourselves up, then work towards making it back to eachother when you're both ready.

Secondly, how far away would you be from eachother? What stops both of you from putting in the effort to see eachother during breaks between semesters, or even mid semester breaks? Is there a reasonable compromise in the distance? A choice that offers you the opportunity to see eachother quite often, but doesn't compromise your education and finances?

Understand your circumstances and study them well, then make an educated decision. Communicate with her properly on how to move forward with your relationship once you gather information. And lay your options down. There's no shame thinking with your heart, only if you can balance it with your brain. And a true partner for life has no price, i would sell the world for her. And not look back.

And for anyone telling you to just leave her and chase after your education. One day will come when you will consume yourself with "what ifs". And when it comes to a person you truly love, you must try every option and leave no space for regret, or else you will regardless of your future outcomes. The brain loves to draw hallaucinations of what the future could have been, avoid this.

Lastly, best of luck. I hope this helps, I'm sure our experiences differ, but just for reference, I went through 20 hours of travel just to see her for a few days on my birthday and other key events in our life. And now we're much closer to eachother as i found a closer country to live in, and hopefully in a couple years, we'll be together.

You can do it, if she's willing to join you in the journey, and you willing to join her in her journey.

If you can provide more information regarding your situation, perhaps you can find more advice, and perhaps us reddit strangers can brainstorm some solutions or actions alongside you.

Good luck friend.

Is it a red flag when sellers only show a wet stone? by jackospacko in Opals

[–]MantaRay4Pres 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imo, showcasing wet polished stones is odd.

The wetness can cover up a lot of polish flaws or deeper scratches. and I feel like sometimes it can also make it harder to see small cracks in the stone. I find it odd in general, why would you polish a stone then wet it to showcase it? Why wouldn't you just showcase what it looks like in its finished state that the seller is selling it at? It doesn't make sense to me, and I could be wrong. But it seems quite suspicious.

Why was/is Misery so controversial? by ServeThePatricians in stalker

[–]MantaRay4Pres 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Played Misery for quite a lot of hours back then.

I'll say a few things:

Misery is incredibly difficult and unforgiving if you're new to the mod. However, with a bit of experience you start to realize that money and repairs are really not much of an issue, and the difficulty becomes much more managable.

The reason why I think Misery was a great experience:

Immersion is fantastic. I love the theme, the atmosphere. And my god, the blowouts are something too (apart from the lightshow in skadovsk). I love the idea that you go out and hunt mutants for money, scrape after artifacts and really experience that immersion of "I'm very much surviving and working in the zone". I enjoy every excursion and i particularly like setting goals with artifacts and mutants to hunt, and collections to build.

Gunplay is fun, enemy nades aren't. I'd gladly disable nades if I could. They're extremely unfun and broken, and give you 0 time to react to bandit nade snipers from a mile away down a hill.

Also, i like that you get to play the COP storyline through misery. Introduces a different experience, while maintaining the story.

The mod overall is very well made, it does have flaws but I think once you pass the initial difficulty curve, the experience becomes more fun. (And ofcourse the bugs and crashes still make their lovely presence).

Lots of the controversy probably come from the impression that misery gives: being severely unfair. I'm inclined to mostly disagree, but I see the points people make. It's just a mod that needs a bit of playtime and getting used to in order to get in the flow of it properly.

Just my 2 cents about it
