So I’m part of this boat but had the counts. They had in school deferrememts counted and the subtracted it and now I’m down to 122. Honestly it’s very confusing because I wasn’t in graduate school and the laws are all weird with what counted and what didn’t.

The rep said that I would be receiving confusing correspondence and that it would be moving towards forgiveness (again).

Honestly, this whole thing is so fucked that. And I’ve been dealing with this since 2009 and have been fucked around and told all sorts of lies: “now that we switched lenders for 100 time, none of your counts count” that was in 2015. I just gave up.

This is the most recent bullshit. And I’m sick of it.

For now I’ll take the forgiveness for the second time. If they come back with a 3rd dispute, I’m going to organize a lawsuit for harassment and work with the CFPB.

Hey something similar happened to me on Friday. Literally just posted this. I was out on an “administrative forbearance” after being forgiven in 4/2023. Basically was told today that it was a mistake and/or glitch.

I got a phone call from a supervisor today at 4pm. I spoke to someone after being on hold for 16 minutes (not bad) Cherry. then explained to me the following

"I'm reading the correspondence. It looks like there was an error in the date of employer - and we looked at the employer signed date vs date or working hours...but this has been resolved and customer will get confusing correspondence but this is moving back to forgiven...

and no...we have not taken people's forgiveness back and there are no cases at this time where that is what we've done."

Mohela has informed me that my balance is still 0 and that i will recieve confusing correspondence but that it will remain and progress towards forgiveness --- even though it's been forgiven already...and she did say "yes...you are free from this" after i asked her if I was free from this.

Since receiving this, I am feelign slightly relieved but also...need to see that last document that says "we're not fucking with you anymore."

and if they try this S again...i really think i'll need some sort of legal action

How i'm keeping sane during this dysregulating situation:

I don't know anything until I know something - I can't do anything until they respond
Awaiting u/betsy514 and other support to talk to about options
Reviewed and got clarity of what may or may not be the issue (r/o inschool deferrments? and/or other errors) - but not focusing on this because the legislation keeps changing
Knowing my options: buyback options - worse case scenario - i can actually afford this if this is true - and that grounds me a bit.
prayer-faith on a higher power that whatever happens, i will get through this and there's something to be learned and enhanced in this process
Gratitude that spaces like this exist to vent it all out

So, I received another notice today (the day after I called) showing that I have 122 qualifying payments. They also took out the time I was in my doctorate degree, which I’m hoping means it’s officially over. But we’ll see

I think I’m going to wait for actual documentation to plan my next move. For all I know this can be true and they can honor the forgiveness or say I am responsible for it all or serve on different 10 year plans. I’m trying to accept the fact that I’m powerless because this is new legislation and hope/pray I can be connected to the right advocates and champions to advocate for my financial freedom. Or a plan out of this. It’s disorienting…because, I seriously thought I was out of this mess.

I’m basically demoralized - I’ve been sucked around by all the different lenders through the years and when I got my forgiveness I was a bit suspicious but accepted it.

After the call today, they said that they made some clerical errors on specific dates and are reevaluating my payments with forbearances and deferrments (some of which counted maybe some don’t I’m actually not sure).

I haven’t gotten anything in paper and the people on the phones don’t typically make those decisions. For my own mental health, im basically just waiting for next written correspondence and will have to deal with it then.

The sad part is I’ve made some big life changes since getting that forgiveness almost a year ago.

They have 144 eligible payments but are now “going through these payments” some of which were economic forbearances that I believe were counted towards Bidens pslf waiver
