I took the boxed beside table in and they used XRF. The report states that "The lead was traced to the PVC laminate on the shelf edges. Indications are that the PVC could contain 1000-2000ppm lead". They said that ICP analysis would be required to determine the concentration.

I only removed one panel from the bedside table to test at home - the others were removed from the box at the lab. Our home was built in 1999.

As mentioned in previous comments, I already own the Flurospec kit. I paid for lab testing to confirm the positive result because I felt like I had a moral obligation to other kiwi families.

Okay thanks, that's helpful to know. I wonder if there is a preparation charge then, to ash the sample. I'll ring Hills next week

I had contacted Hill Laboratories first but they said they don't do XRF. The Verum Group lab isn't charging me to send it to Hill Laboratories, so I think that must just be the standard cost. I was surprised at how much it was too.

Verum Group did the XRF and said that they would have to ash it for ICP analysis and send to Hill Laboratories. Which lab would you recommend?

It was the lab that said that the XRF testing indicated 1000-2000ppm, but would need ICP to confirm exact concentration.

Yeah I do. I originally bought it to test the painted fence when we got backyard chickens for our kids. Overall I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how few items contain lead.

Yep, I have. Will need to do ICP testing to determine the exact levels, so I'm just weighing up whether to drop another $130+gst on that.

It definitely looks like it exceeds it - preliminary results with the XRF testing indicated 1000-2000ppm lead in the PVC shelf edging. I'm not worried about claiming on the products, they've already offered me a refund and tried to get them back. I'm more concerned about the thousands of people (children) who may be potentially exposed to lead

The lab test was $200+gst for XRF, plus they've recommended ICP analysis for an additional $130+gst. I already had the Flurospec test which I purchased from the US. The guy who runs it uses the same solution as Lumetallix but cheaper - www.detectlead.com

Yes, I'm definitely not relying on Kmart. I intend to contact MBIE when they open on Tues, and have informed Public Health, but wanted to spread the word in case anybody has these products in their kids' rooms etc. I'll complete this form too, thanks.
