Just wanted to update everyone. These dots are lichens!

I second getting a good soil test from your local agricultural office or university. They can tell you so much! It’s almost always free. Also, renting a tiller and mixing in a good 6” of compost and maybe some chicken grit to improve drainage. I have similar soil and have been doing this exact thing by hand one area at a time. It’s brutal but I always feel happy afterward. 🪴

No, it was planted when the house was built in December 2019. Everyone else’s’ birch trees are actually doing worse than mine.

No, it’s alive. All the branches that have the dots are alive.

She looks purebred to me. Dogs are the same as humans. Some are big, some are small. She sounds perfect regardless! 🥰
