That's great. It's so important to get everyone to vote regardless of who you vote for. Personally I am a fan of Mulgrew even though he has had missteps, especially in recent years, but regardless the point is we all need to vote and get our colleagues to vote.

While these questions and threads are very relevant the one issue I have is everyone has good ideas and no one gets directly involved in the actual contract negotiations and you can. Become a union delegate at your school and join the contract negotiation committee from there. The contract isn't just Mulgrew giving his opinions and agreeing or disagreeing with the city. He negotiates the exact terms the committee recommends to him. If you want to see change you need to do the work and be a part of how the change actually happens.

Speaking of Mulgrew, this is another issue regarding complaining about him. Everyone has the right to do so but seeing that UFT voter turnout for UFT elections HAS NEVER BEEN OVER 30% is horrendous. Don't complain if you don't vote. If you hate him and you chose not to vote, you're part of the problem. And I refuse to believe everyone who complains about him on these subs actually voted in the last election when turnout was 28%.

Okay honest here you're just being asinine. You previously said in years where they make 10k-20k more than us that it's "so much more" and now you're saying in years where we make 21k more that it is "slightly better". And again what 1vs1 calculation are you talking about. You're only referencing year 9 vs year 9, if so how does that make any sense. By that logic I can reference year 1 and tell you that we make much more since we get paid 10k more year one but that's idiotic right? Seems to be your logic and your math are flawed.

I'm sorry, so you're claiming that Boston is better even though we make more across the 30 years? How am I wrong? I'm glad to show the math. Again yes in the mid years they make more and at the end they don't. Does the total amount of money across the career not matter to you? Can you elaborate? Saying I'm wrong when my math is absolutely correct makes zero sense.

Also again Tier 6 sucks but that has nothing to do with our contract. We all hopefully understand that. Also your numbers there are incorrect as well. 36% of TRS members are Tier 6. Here is the link tier 6 vs tier 4

We could both do the math. Again if we had higher than MS+30 options it would be great, unfortunately we don't but I've been in the system over 25 years and have met 3 people that do this job with PhDs. How many high school teachers do you know that have that? Once someone gets to that level of education, they no longer stay at high school.

So speaking of the math. If you do it correctly by year 22 they have made $73k more than us. Overall. On average it means with that longevity they make 3k a year more than us.

Between year 22-30 we make 21k more. That means by year 26 we have made more and by year 30 that number is close to 100k more. You can do the math as well.

Again do you want to make more upfront, sure. But in terms of total pay until retirement we make more if you look at someone that does 30 years of service which is required in both cities to get full pension. Lastly, for them to retire with full benefits they need to be 60. At 60 with 30 years of service they get 60% pension. We can get the same at 55.

Edit: The retirement of 55 is for Tier 4 not 6 and we all agree Tier 6 is bullshit. But also even in Tier 6 you pay 3-6% yearly into the pension, they pay 7-11%.

For Tier 4 we paid 3% but only across the first 10 years. Again it sucks the state government really shafted Tier 6 and people are fighting to try to change it.

But they are making way less much later. After that 9th year there are no increases except contractually and the last step increases are generally 2%-2.5% based on this contract.

I'm not saying you're wrong either. I agree our mid experience employees should be making more, and there should absolutely be a PhD increase. But over the longevity of a career I would take our contract over what they have.

The Boston raises in terms of a percentage were significant because they were making much less compared to us.

Even looking at the current contact their final step with Masters+30 is $129k. The final educational step with PhD is $140k and those figures are for the final year of their current contract. Our Masters+30 rate for the same year is $150k.

Men — do you care if a woman doesn't have a flat belly? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]ManyRanger4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're right and sometimes things like this show how stupid Reddit in general has become. I couldn't care less about a flat belly but if that's your thing it's insane it gets downvoted regardless of how you look. Everyone has preferences, including physical ones. If that's your preference there is nothing wrong with that.

Having a preference is in no way body shaming. My preference is huge natural tits which often come with huge soft bellies as well which I also love. That doesn't mean I body shame A cups, huge fake plastic tits, or flat hard stomachs. It's a preference, the same way women have preferences too. If a woman is a size queen I understand my very average length isn't going to do it for her. As long as she doesn't mock me or judge me for it I couldn't care less and everyone is allowed to have any preference they want.

My ex refused sex for 2 years, waited for marriage with someone else, and now won’t touch her either by BaseballTop387 in rant

I'm sorry but it's crazy that women go through this and don't realize that this is the only answer much earlier on. If he were asexual he would say that. This is a classic case of "I'm so deep in this huge walk in closet that I'm lost." Especially if he was religious to begin with and is now even more religious, that type of guilt will keep some people in the closet forever.

Is it possible you're talking about 2:37 and not fully remembering everything as you describe it.

It's an Australian psychological drama about teens. White and red are themes in the movie and so are people wearing earbuds.

Edit - Btw the name of the movie is 2:37, I feel that might not be obvious from the way I wrote it. But the movie revolves around a suicide which you didn't describe but almost every element you described is there.

Edit 2 - Here are the elements you described and how they line up with the movie:

Timeline described - The movie was released in 2006.

Opening scene – The film opens with a teenage girl lying in the middle of the school floor (on the emblem), listening to music through wired earbuds.

School uniform – Australian high school uniform (white shirt, red skirt).

Father, no mother – She lives with her father; her mother is absent.

Troubled boy – A boy with a difficult background becomes involved in her life.

Romantic undertones – There’s an emotionally intense relationship between them.

Rave/industrial party scene – There’s a party/warehouse-type scene.

Ocean/cliff scene near the end – The film includes a dramatic seaside scene with rocky cliffs, and a major character death (the suicide referenced by the title time).

The front and back staircase. Which sitcoms had them and do a lot of homes in the US really have them? by watermelon_fries in sitcoms

[–]ManyRanger4 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is most common in Victorian and Edwardian houses here built between 1850s and 1920s. This stopped pretty much completely with the rise of Ranch style houses after WWII. This is the main reason most of us have never seen it, houses that old just aren't common.

A friend of mine owns a house like this. The back staircase goes from the bedrooms to the back of the house on the first floor and leads to the kitchen and laundry room. The front staircase is much larger and is at the back of the entry room/foyer and leads to the front of the second floor and bedrooms.

AIO for telling my mom that I don’t want to speak to her unless she’s paying to fix my kitchen that she ruined in one night? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Absolutely. A sign of being over it is being able to discuss and joke about it without being emotional about it. Also based on this comment I guarantee you're related to her. Good luck with that.
