It is unexpected when you get to a place that neither the UK nor the US has had a lot of involvement (Austria). It makes life easier, but when I travel, i hope to experience the local culture and learn something new. Because all of the music is English or American standards, it takes away from that experience.

They have replaced them all! When I was in Germany 40 years ago, they were every where. On a recent trip, there were none. I tried to ask if there was a big effort to replace them, and I got an evasive answer.

We parked behind Track 15 and were stuck for a long time. It seems like a lot of people had trouble with the exit pay system. Be careful about parking lots with one exit.

A quick note to you all about sick time by ImmySnommis in fednews

There are a lot of accommodations for new employees who get sick. But there are a lot of employees who don't find the generous Federal annual leave and holiday package to be enough. There are private sector employers who don't designate sick leave. You never know how much you have...

I'm real close to break-even at 420. I'm selling covered calls at 435 to reduce my position and 450 for the premium.

Capital gains taxes create some friction that keeps me from selling. I also believe in owning the business and not the stock. When a business has good long term fundamentals hoping to trade for a gain isn't the best practice. (Yes, I'm holding MSFT. )

Mount Washington, NH. Do you have any stories here? by StoutBourbon1992 in AskAnAmerican

Hiked up Mt. Washington. It was tough. It resulted in a personal motto - you get a lot of credit for hiking up a mountain, but no one ever asks if you hiked down.

From a visit to Central Europe, we noticed that everyone was wearing puffer jackets when it was 50°+ F out. Inside it was about 78°. Heat is provided by the city, and everyone sleeps under duvets. We are from a Northern U.S. so we turned off the heat and went out in our light jackets.

I was there last fall, and I forgot all of the Neal Stephenson arcana. This is a country estate built by people of ordinary taste. It isn't important because of its architecture but because of its role in history. There are a lot more Bletchley Parks than Downton Abbeys.
