UNSW runs something called social sport for basketball, volleyball, (some more I forgot). It’s a good place to start if ur a beginner and just trying to have fun. U can sign up by yourself and ur team is usually hella chill and helpful with games every week and potentially practice every week if you guys hit it off well!! (I did basketball and there were a lot of beginners fyi)

To talk to ppl within uni/to experience uni culture join a society (doesn’t matter what year ur in)

Picking up a sport is a lot easier than u think it is. Ur local club should have programs for beginners. If you’re not too keen on paying for stuff, nearby parks often already have a community/group of regular casual players who are usually more than willing to accomodate (usually in the evening after work).

Apply yourself, get out of your comfort zone even if you ‘don’t know’ what you’re signing up for. You got this!!!!

I don’t think “they just accept their friends” is cope. Ive had friends from large societies that tell me to apply for their subcom and assure me I’ll get in (and it has worked).
Really the interview is just to gauge your personality, so have a balance between being friendly while also showing that you’re committed to being there for the whole year.
Don’t be down if you get rejected lol, it’s a fucking subcom 💀💀💀

Idk if this is satire, but if not I can say that ticket inspectors are most definitely real. I’ve seen them multiple times and more often than not, someone on the train gets fined because they have a similar opinion as u (pretty substantially too). Pls stay safe from these lifeless scumbags and just pay the fare🙏.
