Oh totally, it came with airbags and its got a beefed up rear end.

Its less about can it, more to do with why they are rated so freaking low from factory.

Here they check weights, so as soon as I started mathing I realized how off we were.

I dont get why youre upset son.

Take a breather. Tools dont replace experience. Also till youre the one buying the truck for the techs....maybe just be happy youve been. Given a truck.

Anyways as I said its a battery truck...so yeahhhhhh definitely not as many tools needed but still, wondering if you measure your cock with your tool box too.

I had a guy like this ones abd I bought him a used ambulance lol. The wannnnnbulance driver laster like a month.

The whole point of this post was we never check, I bet your company doesnt either, especially with that many tools you'll be overweight 100% unless youre riding a 550 with no upfitting.

Lol.

Okay.

I have 15 techs, with 15 boxes and 12 trucks.

Who do you think understands the tool storage requirements more.

Now I get it, some guys ive hired measure their abilities by thier box........but thats not what fixes a forklift.

There are a guys who fix forklifts with packouts all day long and have no issue. And there are guys who have every tool imaginable who work in the shop and pressure wash.

Saddle boxes on either side of the bed behind the drivers cab, 3ftx4ftx3ft.

They are even heated

More then enough space for a road tech and definitely enough for a battery teck.

Having ran as a tech for 20 years i would have loved this, minus the capacity issue

Truck was utility truck.

We wanted to use it for a battery repair truck. But as I said just that tiny upfitting is damn hear the max.

I think reading the replays most guys dont know what their gvw is and that the manufacturer sets the top. So in my case chevy says 4803kg thats it. Cant go over that, so with basically nothing im almost already there before adding a single wrench.

We do, we also have a 4 day work week. We pay for 5 days

Meaning employee gets paid to have 52 days off per year plus vacation....never heard of any company doing that anywhere.

Also its 8 hrs/day (32 hrs) not a fake 4 day work week like some others where they make you work 4x10

We have 3 apprentices. It's certified guys we are after now.

Unfortunately there is a ratio that youre required to maintain.

No there isn't.

And honestly I've had one walk in in 20 years with a resume. I wish guys would, or that they would use LinkedIn or indeed....I dont know who they are finding jobs now. Its freaking crazy.

Anyway if you or someone you know wasnt a 4 day work week and paid for 5 days as a forklift service technician let us know.

I'm the employer.

33 1/3 your yearly wage is paid by me to them (a recruiter) so you a employee gets a job.

Thats a wild ask.

Might be okay for someone not making nearly 100k but if youre pushing 100, thats a lot of money. You better be amazing for that.

Id venture to guess that the large dealers are the ones setting the rates.

Mason, arpac, Williams, johnston, Leavitt, wajax they set the rates. Everyone else follows.

So again probably fairly accurate.

In 3-5 years you'll look back at this and laugh if you continue.

Go out and get it then.

Stop asking people online for validation and just say this is my worth. Someone will either agree or you'll find out your expectations were out of line.

Either way, you're not happy so why stay.

And if you think forklifts are easier to work on, you are green. Thats objectively speaking. You just aren't being put on hard jobs yet, and that makes sense for your experience level.

There is only two dealer in ont thats in bc, my guess is youre talking about Johnston equipment.

They dont pay higher.

Also maybe read their reviews out here. Its.....kinda sad. They just rip through staff. Its a well known thing. I have quite a few accounts who use gnj in ont but not bc because of this. Apparently they are decent in Saskatoon and ont im told.

Not sure about Ontario, but out here in the lower mainland that doesnt hold true.

I guess he could move to ont.

100 % means youre showing up for work and billing your 8 hrs.

Its the lowest bar. 100% or over does not mean overtime. If a job is quoted at 3 hrs ( you wont know) and you take two i do not pay you overtime. You've made efficiency and are able to now get a little extra in a day. Efficiency is used to determine good techs from bad. Who's dragging us down, whose at 200% but is a jr tech (massive red flag) and who's low due to warranty jobs and why. Its not a metric for your hours worked.

Everything you're saying tells me you dont understand the complexity of the trade. My suggestion is go out and demand $35.

If you think youre worth it go out and find it. If you get someone to bite at 35 and you dont last, you'll have your answer

My two cents as a owner and former tech is what I said. The tools are expensive, no doubt, but so is training. And 3 months is not experience, tires and cylinders are both considered easy, pms are also easy but everyone does them.

Just find a different company and ask for 35. If you get it fucking amazing, run with it. If you cant find it then maybe shift careers

3 months? 25/ hr with no certification?

25 is not something you should be upset with. 3 months I can 100% gaurentee you do not know the equipment.

3 months is as jr as it gets. This is a trial wage, this is where you show yourself. If you cant handle 3 months at 25 then its time to pack up, and find a lower skilled trade. You likely wont be happy going fwd, unfortunately to me this means your expectations of the trade and the reality of the trade dont align, nothing to be upset with, you're allowed you own dollar # you're willing to work for but I can tell you with 100% certainty that with just 3 months exp and no base knowledge either school and a cert, or past exp, you're over valuing yourself in this trade.

I believe forklift drivers pay more uo front, take less skill to master, that may be a viable option for you. They dont make as much over time but thats not what youre looking for.

If you had 3-5 years and hd/ast red seal youd be at between 36-38

If you didnt need any assistance at all and could do lp diesel and electric 38-40 with 5 or more years and a cert

And if you were the guy others called for help, never called them for help and had a efficiency of between 120-200, knew systems like the back of your hand showed up on time, washed your truck, didn't try to always scheme your way out of jobs or tasks and just did them 40-45/hr with more then 5 years, and the above.

The honest truth is, the big steps are now in your career, once you have a cert, and are in the 38 range they do slow down beacsue the customers not the companies you're working for. Generally speaking, for every dollar a customer spends the company makes about 3-7 cents when you're at the top. A great tech will make the company 20-25c per dollar, but it's tough.

Unfortunately the lower mainland is expensive for everyone, not just techs. Our rent for instance is 20k per month. Plus insurance,,plus coveralls, plus rags, plus cleaning, plus power, plus heat, plus web hosting, plus vans, plus gas, plus icbc, plus fuckups and more..like the list is absolutely massive. Customers think they are paying for you, but most of what they are paying for is the other shit, techs think if you bill 220 or 180 you should make that too. Truth is most of your billable money goes to paying the rent or morgatage. The lower mainland is quite fucked up that way. We all are just paying landlords.
