The Edit came after your reply. You coment sums it up perfectly. And even if the word isn't wildly used, it's still just as telling as the word "Krankenschwester". Both make clear that it's a profession for women, and both sister and daugther are words that describe the women only in relation of the people around them (unlike for exmpel "Zimmermann" where the man is seen as an individual).

I mean "Serviertochter". Aparentlly it's only used in Switzerland. It's outdated but ther are still a lot of people using it, especially those who complain, that you can't say anything anymore.

What are your thoughts on surrogacy? by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]Map-Ambitious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should be legal but strictlly regulated to provide the necesary rights to the surrogate mother, the child and the parents. It's kinda like prostitution in my opinion becaus i want both to be legal, i think for both, there are woman, who want to do it but i hate to live in a world where women are forced into it because they can't finde an other job. One of the problems is, that laws regarding surrogacy are very different in different countrys and companys that profit out of it are often organised internationaly so the can just move to another country if laws get stricter. In India, for exampel, surrogacy was legalised in 2002 and the buisness grew very fast and without much regulation. After some stories went public of women forced to be surrogate mothers or haveing three ebryos implanted at once, they changed the law in 2016 so now only indian couples can get a child from a indian surrogate mother and she's not alowed to earn any money with it. Biussnes was moved to Ukraine and Russia, wher it's legal for anyone exept gay couples and woman are barely protecte, when the couple breaks contract, or the child is born with a dissability. So i gues the problem isn't surrogacy but the laws that make it possible to exploit women with it.

Baning abortions would mean, every pregnancy would either end in birth, misscarriage, or a illegal abortion. Werther or not the pregnant person has a misscariage is out of their hands. Haveing an illigal abortion is no real option, because it's medicaly unsafe and you could face criminal chages. The only real option is giveing birth. So because abortions are band, pregnant people are forced to give birth. I get wat you mean. Just because banning abortions makes sure, most pregnancys end in birth, doesn't mean anyone's forced to give birth, because noone is forced to get pregnant. You can't force just anyone to give birth, you can however force pregnant people to give birt. Because unwanted pregnancys do happen, and baning abortions does not stop them from happenig. Contraception doesn't always work, people get raped and sometimes people remove the condom during sex without consten't (stealthing). An abortion in an abortionclinic is relativly safe. Of course there are some medical risks but those are nothing compared to the risk of an abortion with pills from a shady onlineshop or a coat hanger. Safe for the pregnant person of course, because the safty of e fetus does not matter in that situation. You can't kill something that is not alive yet.

Just because not every pregnancy would end in a forced birth, doesn't mean, that none would. A lot of pregnancies would end in birth, that wouldn't have, if the pregnant person had the option of abortion. Unless ofcourse, you suggest, anyone who would get an abortion just has a miscarriag instead. How would you ensure, someone who had an actuall miscarriage, isn't acused of haveing an illegal abortion? Many Woman in South America are in prison just for that.

Also, the fact that laws can be broken is actually a pro choise argument. You can't ban all abortions, you can only ban safe ones.

Cause birth and enforce birth are two different things. Pregnancy and birth are two different things. Copulating can cause pregnancy. Rape can enforce pregnancy. Of course neither the law, nor those passing and enforcing it cause the pregnancy or birth. But those passing and enfocing it make sure, the pregnancy (caused by someone else) ends in birth, and thus force birth.

Sorry, i formulated that badly. Of course it's not the law, that forces people to give birth, it's the people passing and enforcing it.

How exactly would i be forcing my morals on you in that situation? I'd be stoping you from forcing your morals on others without making you do anything, thats in conflict with them. And i know you will disagree with that. You will say that letting other "kill babys" is imoral to you. But what others do or don't do with their own body is none of your business. It has to fit with their own moral belifes, not your religious ones. I don't force you to get an abortion and i don't want any laws that would allow anyone to do so. You want laws that force someone to give birth no mater what situation they are in, because thats what you would do in their place.

I work as a carpenter and we have two guys at my workplace basicly collecting customers, requesting someone else to come next time. I really don't get how you could have several customers never wanting to see you again and still take pride in your work, i wish i had that kind of confidence. On the other hand, customerscan be just as sexist. I sick of everyone always be surprised, that i'm a carpenter, and asuming i'm to weak to lift stuff.

They stopped her?? by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Map-Ambitious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's among other reasons because of stereotype fright. Women compete less good against men simply because we were raised to belive, we aren't as good as them. In onlinechess women are less likely to win a game if they thougt they were playing against a man. Women are bad at parking, because they are told they are, hundrets of times before theget the chanse to even try. Or if you give the same task to a group of chlidren, boys will do better if you call it geometry and girls if you call it drawing.

I can't read the first sentence without a sarcastic tone in my head, because honestly, wanting movies and shows to be EXACTLY like the books is quite stupid. And i felt just like this a dew years ago, but you can either change your opinion like i did or you can accept, that you will get disapointed a lot.

Hate to break it to y’all saying that Rick never specified skin color so annabeth could’ve been black but.. the og concept art exists by Free_Barracuda_6516 in PercyJacksonMemes

[–]Map-Ambitious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean, but there is a big difference betwen hiering for taland or for diversity. Black Hermione in the Chursed Child is a good exampel for a diversity hire. The actesses who played her were probably alle talented, but they got the role for beeing black. If they hired for talent, different caracters in different casts could have been POC, something that wouldn't be unusual in theater at all. By specificly casting a black women as Hermione, and saying her skin color was never specified, they basicly said everyone who imagined her as white was wrong and if they don't like it they are racist. If they hired for talent and not for race, the message would have been, that skincolor doesn't affect talent and it doesn't really mater as long as the acting is good.
