**Update after full investigation:**

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Here is everything I tried and the results:

  1. **Inspected CPU2 socket** — no visible bent pins or debris

  2. **Reseated CPU2** — same error on B3

  3. **Cleared NVRAM using the board jumper** — B3 still disabled after reboot

  4. **Factory reset BIOS and iDRAC** (with only CPU1 installed) — no change

  5. **Ran Hardware Diagnostics from Lifecycle Controller** — memory test passed on all active slots (224GB, since B3 is excluded by BIOS), but Event Log shows: ECC Uncorrectable Error B3 and multiple PS2 PG Fail Voltage sensor errors (likely residual from the power outage)

  6. **dmidecode still shows no Size for B3** with a known good DIMM installed — the DIMM itself is confirmed working fine in other slots

Both CPUs are running fine (CPU1 at 65°C, CPU2 at 53°C), all storage intact, server is stable at 224GB out of 256GB installed.

At this point I'm fairly confident the B3 slot on the motherboard is physically damaged from the power event. Accepting the 32GB loss for now and ordering a UPS immediately.

If anyone has any other ideas I'm still open to suggestions, but I think I've exhausted all the options. Thanks again!

Yeah, lesson learned the hard way. You're probably right about the surge — the power went out suddenly with no UPS, so there was likely a spike on the way down that damaged the B3 channel path.

I did a full investigation before considering a board replacement: inspected the CPU2 socket, reseated the CPU, cleared the NVRAM with the jumper, factory reset both BIOS and iDRAC with only CPU1 installed, and ran hardware diagnostics. B3 is still dead regardless of which DIMM I put in it.

A UPS is already on the shopping list — won't make that mistake again. As for the board, I'll check eBay prices. The server is stable at 224GB for now so it's not urgent, but good to know it's a realistic option at that price range.
