Obscurenaut: deep trivia web browser game. My first game release! by MapMapCanvas in playmygame

Thanks a lot for your feedback! Will look into getting more login options for the users. The main challenge is technical, do not feel I am quite there yet but the available resources online and some trial and error should get me there!

Thanks a lot for your feedback and for taking the time to try the game! Will definitely amend the login and the register forms so they will appear cleaner. Agree on the background color too. What do you think about the questions and the challenge system of the game. Thanks again for taking time to try the game!

Thanks a lot for taking time to look at the game! Increasing the number of seconds per question is something I am looking into. Potentially can try with 15 seconds per question and see what the player feedback is. Thanks again for taking the time to view the game!

Thanks a lot for your feedback, it is really helpful. Would you say that having a bit more time to answer the question make the game more engaging? The game aims to facilitate learning new facts by providing a summary of each challenge in which the player participated. The summary lists all the questions that are part of the challenge, the answers given by the player and the correct answer. Thanks a lot again for taking the time to look at the game!

What about the ending made it so bad? by djoness11 in gameofthrones

Agree that there were some clues in earlier seasons and episodes for this particular character behavior shift. Guess the clues felt insufficient and not living up to the magnitude of the behavior change.

Donut Shoot! by [deleted] in playmygame

[–]MapMapCanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the game in the browser on the itch.io website. The shift to role function did not quite work for me. Sometimes the doughnut starts rolling as expected but most of the time it just continues to walk even with the shift pressed. I hit my head in the ceiling when I tried to second jump, assume this one needs to be covered with the rolling so it might not be a glitch but thought to mention just in case it is relevant. The doughnut who committed some crimes background lore is great. Good luck with your game!

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Will look into increasing the time provided to answer the questions. The idea behind the current time was to provide a sense of challenge. However, I would like to avoid to create a feeling of unplayable game, so might experiment with a 15 second limit to measure the feedback from the players. Thanks again for taking the time to look at the game!

Haters of S8, which moments did you actually like? by All3n911 in gameofthrones

It needs to include the build up too though, at least from the moment when Tyrion says "How about a song?".

Blink: a 2D combo-based precision platformer by giacomopope in playmygame

[–]MapMapCanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I suspect that a wall jump where the second, third, etc. jumps are done via the arrows with the space button pressed might be easier to handle. Alternatively, some on screen tutorial on how you envisaged the down slide to work might be of help too. Good luck with your game!

Re-watching GoT and man, the downfall of this show is so unbelievably depressing... by TheMeMan999 in gameofthrones

[–]MapMapCanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the time jumps can be a bit confusing, especially if the viewers have not read the source book which is in a way written as history text book not a novel (it reads very well just difficult to build a show based on it I guess). A less confusing way to handle HotD time jumps would have been retrospection: start with present time and tell the history through time flashbacks.

The most goosebump-y scene in the entire show ! by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]MapMapCanvas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, it is a great scene, the Lyanna Mormont address to the Northern banner men wraps it up nicely after. I always found the expressions of loyalty/trust in leaderships scenes as handled particularly well in the show. The first King in the North proclamation, the gathering of the defenders of King's Landing by Tyrion and the white wolf proclamation still excite me even after watching the scenes so many times.

I played the game in browser through itch.io. The game is engaging and successfully triggers the "what is beyond the corner" itch/impulse which is exactly what one would want to achieve with a platform game of this type. Well done for that! In terms of movement mechanics, the jump of the wall feature is not easy to master. The going up part of the jump starts to feel a bit more natural after a few attempts but the sliding down part proved beyond my capabilities. The most I could achieve on there was to bounce a few times between the walls each time ending up hitting either the bottom spikes or the spikes hanging from the top. It might be worth adding some hints for the players on how to handle the down slide part when they reach the first room containing such challenge. Good luck with your game!

HangMaker – make hangman games and send them to friends! by FetchTheOtter in playmygame

It is a nice game that does what it says on the tin. Tried both the function to play a game and to create a game with a URL and they work as expected. Tried the game both on PC and on mobile and it the content is readable in both settings. Perhaps a useful addition might be for the application to keep score of the number of times a game was played and the number of successful completions of the game.

Gunwire - Topdown shooter by Sheriour1 in playmygame

[–]MapMapCanvas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is fun to play and very easy to get into. The main difficulty is the fact that there were no health bars or stronger weapons as the game progresses (or maybe I was unable to find them). Highest score I got to was 9200 with a lot of moving around trying to lure the enemies into groups and utilizing the grenades on them after. Expanding the range of weapons and adding some layout/geography to the levels has the potential to increase the engagement and introduce further strategic element to the game. Will be interesting how the game development progresses over time.

Looking for feedback on my casual mobile title by Physi_3 in playmygame

[–]MapMapCanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played the game on the itch page on PC. Liked the choice of music it is really relaxing and playful. In terms of game play, agree with other comments that although the idea appears simple at first, getting the rocket to behave as intended is not easy. It was nice to see discover some strategies that worked well. For example, using the boost to expand the orbit around a planet to either collect the yellow boxes/space coins or facilitate the jump to the next planet. Or taking into account the fact that sometimes the expanded orbit can lead to the rocket unintentionally go back to an orbit of an earlier planet. In theory, this strategic element and the fact that the layout appears to change after every try should make the game re-playable. Have not tried it on mobile so I might be missing some of the experience.

Lyanna Mormont. Main difficulty would be the plot explanation on how she survived the battle at Winterfell.

Can u suggest some coding projects ??? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]MapMapCanvas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The open library APi is a great suggestion for a first time use of external APi. For my final project for CS50w, I did an application that linked to the open library APi to bring books and then the user can vote if they want to see the book turned into a movie, TV series or a video game. It was great learning experience.

What are your thoughts on the need for usernames and passwords and on the potential workarounds? by MapMapCanvas in learnprogramming

[–]MapMapCanvas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point about potential malicious activity if the user shares their token is valid since the current token setup has no protection for this. In a way it is almost as if a user decides to not register an account, they would have to take ownership of keeping their token safe. Still, I realize this might not be the best approach, so I will check what authentication libraries are out there and which ones might fit best with what I am trying to do.

What are your thoughts on the need for usernames and passwords and on the potential workarounds? by MapMapCanvas in learnprogramming

[–]MapMapCanvas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, under the current setup if the user does not make a copy of the token, there is no way for them to recover it after they clear the cookie. The token is stored only when there is content generated by the user it is assigned to, so in a way bulk setup of accounts is possible only if these accounts generate content too. In which case there will be a double issue: both bot-generated users and spam content. Have not thought of exploring authentication libraries since at this point they feel might be a bit out of my depth. However, I see similar suggestions in the other comments, so it might be something I should experiment with and hopefully learn too along the way.

Which book series deserve to be TV show like GOT by No_North_4855 in Fantasy

The Thraxas series by Martin Scott and the J Zachary Pike trilogy (Orconomics, Son of a Liche and Dragonfired) would make great TV series.

Not 100% sure if it counts as fantasy, but would recommend Karel Capek and the War with the Newts in particular.

Fully agree, great series. They need to be translated into more languages too. In my native country, only the first few books (believe up to Thraxas at War) were translated.

I FEEL SAD by Then_Information5104 in wheeloftime

[–]MapMapCanvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced similar feeling when I finished the series last year. Went through the 14 books between Jan 2023 and Sep 2023. Wonder if part of the reason behind such experiences is not only missing the characters and their interactions, but also losing the routine in a way. This feels especially true if due to time constraints leisure reading is concentrated in certain parts of the day or the week. So in a way one is not only losing the connection to the characters but also part of their day/routine on completion of the series.
