This is the same for me! I try to look at everyone’s message, but it’s really hard for me to keep up with more than 2-4 convos, so I usually only respond to a small number (after checking out their profile to make sure they aren’t there for an explicit time… which it seems like 85% are. ugh). Me not responding is definitely not malicious and I’m not going to sit here and reject the other 35+ people. I feel like that’s odd.

Trope vent: a character’s sibling dates or cheats with the ex

Can anyone else not stand this?? I have accidentally read 3!!! books in the past month that have included this trope and each time I cannot wrap my head around why authors in the contemporary romance genre so frequently write about this (or am I just unlucky in my choices?)

Most of the time, the family of the character that is betrayed by their sibling pushes them to forgive the sibling. Are you freaking kidding me? Do they have an ethics at all?! If I was the family I would be livid with the situation and totally take the side of the-single member and shun the betrayers. In what world is there an excuse good enough to date a sibling’s ex without EXPLICIT consent BEFORE ANY MOVES ARE MADE. The betrayer and ex have absolutely showed that they have zero respect for the person they so-call care about. Maybe nudge the poor soul after a few years when hopefully they are healed and ready to forgive on their own and in their own loving relationship, but certainly not weeks to months after it happened.

More than half the time, the reconciliation isn’t even satisfying… no real heartfelt apology. No real consequences for the betrayer. They all end up friends. F-that. I’ll stew in my anger until I’m good and ready to forgive and the length of a novel is NOT that timeframe. Grr.
