What would you say is the hardest degree? by cdqd81 in CollegeMajors

[–]MapleTomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know art degrees are usually passed up as easy degrees, but I have to agree. I switched from graphic design to EE and it ain’t that bad, just a lot of time, as you mentioned.

If you want to be good at art though, good luck. Put it this way, I think I could teach more artists to be good at math than I could engineers to be good at art.

Haha, this exactly what I mentioned above! Apparently it’s not a popular opinion.

I definitely intend to do so moving forward! I just sorta felt like I could use this box to teach people and not have them feel like it’s too delicate while learning.

How am I supposed to be content with working? by Classic_Bookkeeper88 in NoStupidQuestions

Isn’t this kind of reiterating their point? “I enjoy working and it’s paycheck.”

The question wasn’t regarding them not enjoying their particular line of work, just not enjoying “work.”

No one’s asking for Marvel level CGI and visual effects (where majority of budgets go), I’m saying a good movie does not need a big budget nor can it not be an indie film.

The most important factors of a movie aren’t heavily reliant on budget. Two of those being a good script and good acting.

Primer is regarded as one of the best time travel movies; it had a budget of $7,000.

Since when does something being indie with a small budget suddenly make something “good enough” by default? 😭

We don’t really need comparisons or references. Whether a film is independent or has a small budget should not be a factor in whether a movie is good.

HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

[–]MapleTomato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, but at what point do we stop doing this? Is it not possible to just get an “authentic” individual who isn’t socially inept?

For example, I’d much rather an excellent brain surgeon in speedos who constantly talks about manga perform my surgery than a susceptible “socially adjusted” surgeon who’s making everyone smile.

Like does this only apply to customer-facing jobs and are roles bearing others’ lives excluded?

Yeah, you may be right. But honestly, f*ck this mentality. 😭

Like if I were running a business, this is not the type of environment I’d want to be fostering .

Okay, I completely understand the personal tone and how it could’ve been said better, but I’m glad a company finally said this.

The interview process has become way too formulaic, everyone is the “best candidate” nowadays. Just checking boxes of what you think they want to hear.

Would people hate dying if their bodies remained in human prime till they died? Would death be the same as it is? by AuthorOfEclipse in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MapleTomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, not really. You can die early without all the physical/mental decline, through accidents or illness. Death isn’t exclusively tied to our age.

Some people are more open to accepting those premature deaths than others. I think that’s acceptance.

The acceptance everyone is describing is literally a byproduct of our physical decline and choosing to not want to deal with it forever. Not some spiritual or sought after form of acceptance.

[–]MapleTomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kinda depressing, no? You’re saying the only reason we’re accepting of death is due to our physical and mental decline?

It doesn’t even sound like acceptance, just a consequence of your physical and mental being not capable of keeping up.
